NeverSayDie Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 OK, for some reason, when I torque the front two rod caps on my engine, it seizes the crank so that it can't be turned. I took them both off, and made sure the bearings were installed correctly, put in some extra assembly lube, but to no avail. Without those two caps tightened down, the engine spins freely, but after I get past about 20 lb. ft. it just locks down. Does anyone have any idea what I could do to correct this? I am at a stand still till this problem is solved. Quote
JS91Z34 Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 The only thing I can think of is that you possibly have the caps reversed. Try turning the rod caps around and see if they fit that way. Most rods and caps have offset bolt/stud holes to accommodate two rods on the same crank journal. If those are on backwards when you torque it, The motor locks up tighter than a vise. Quote
patgizz Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 do you have the right bearings for the engine? dont know what all you've done but if you have a stock crank with a bearing for a crank that's been cut .010 then itll do the same thing, possibly if you are doing new ones they mixed one up, wouldnt be the first time. NeverSayDie Posted March 22, 2003 Author Report Posted March 22, 2003 I have the right bearings...or else there were two in the set that aren't the same. All the others torqed down fine though. The crank wasn't cut, just polished. Quote
