stockgp
95 loomie with 175, 761 miles. only thing i know about it is that it had both headgaskets replaced. supposedly it's ahd regular maintenance, but i don't know if that includes replacing the trans fluid. i'm going ot check it in th emorning, but it doesn't seem to want to downshift going uphill. at least that's what my mom says. i think it's just that she's used to driving her a 5 speed and she doesn't give it enough gas. still, it is a little noisy uphill. there is a leak somewhere in the car, whether it's oil or trans fluid i'm not sure yet. Supreme Cutlass
just pull the dipstick and check it out. I'd say yes, it couldn't hurt.
3pt1lumina
Yeah might as well change it. Like SupremeCutlass said, can't hurt her at all. Besides it'll be good to have a new pan gasket dwelling on there as well as a new filter. Just make sure it isn't burned before you replace it, or that might cause some problems in the future. gp90se
I swear by lucas tranny additive, some people hate it. I would tell ya 2 change the fluid/filter and add the lucas stuff.

Yeah I agree actually. I put some in my Malibu at 57k when I flushed the tranny. The shifts that I thought were smooth to begin with are even smoother! Best money I ever spent! stockgp
well i'm only asking because i changed the fluid in my trans with unknown history a while back. it improved for a while, but finally got to the point where it only had first gear. seemed like the new fluid/filter just made things worse
3pt1lumina
Yeah, I heard this (don't know if it's true) but after awhile the transmission fluid gets thick. As it gets thick, the transmission gets used to it. Then it starts to smell burnt and when that happens, the internals are starting to take a shit. If you change the fluid at this point, the new fluid doesn't do anything but finish destroying the transmission. Again, don't know if any of this is true, but I thought I'd share. I won't change fluid if it looks funny or smells funny. I try to keep a regular maintenance on my vehicles. If I get a car and don't know the history, I just add and never change it. stockgp
yeah i guess that'a good idea. i just don't like the idea of NOT changing the filter, you know?
3pt1lumina
Ya if you change the fluid, might as well go all out and change the fluid, pan gasket, and filter. No sense in doing a job and not really doing it all the way. I hear ya.

I've heard transmission fluid burns after a while, My car's transmision fluid was burnt and orangeish, but I changed most of it out (It didn't seem any thicker than the new stuff). Still runs fine. digitaloutsider
Fuck Lucas. Don't use the shit, ever. It has no place in a properly-running transmission.
THe_DeTAiL3R
I put some Lucas in my old car, it didn't hurt it any. I didn't put like the whole bottle in, only like 20% of it or whatever. I'd say drop the pan change filter and top up fluid...
stockgp
i'll get to it tonight. if it doesn't smell or look bad, i'm going to drop the pan. i was going to do it this morning, but i woke up and couldn't move my legs

stockgp
well it was a quart low. i added a quart last night and checked it today after running it a bit. the fluid doesn't seem to be burnt or oddly colored. i think the pan gasket is just leaking. i knew it had a loeak, i just wasn't sure if it was oil or trans fluid. soon i'm going to drop the pan and change the filter
joey b
About that downshift while going uphill, you have the 60E I thought that shifting was controlled by the TPS sensor location.
stockgp
but without enough trans fluid the tranny will have trouble shifting. it was a quart low
ns87
i took a risk and flushed my fluid twice at 110k (it was not burnt, but very very dirty). I then had the filter changed after about 2k miles, and changed the fluid again. I'm at 119k and change and so far so good
