Supreme Cutlass
what's the part number/name for this gasket?- edit at bottom of the page-
Robby1870
Ask for a water outlet or water by-pass tube gasket.
Supreme Cutlass
How hard should I torque it down? I torqued it to about 20ft/pounds, anything I should do before I fire it up?
Rocketman
its actually an O-ring on there IIRC. If it leaks you'll notice it.
Supreme Cutlass
it's not an O-Ring, I just put a new gasket in and I need to know how hard to tighten the bolts (in/pounds preferably)
Crazy K
its actually an O-ring on there IIRC. If it leaks you'll notice it. It is an o-ring on the 3100. on the 3.1 it is a paper gasket. To my knowldege at least, i know of no cross-over models....
Supreme Cutlass
OH SHIT!!! Part of the rear bolt broke off in the timing chain cover, How should I get it out????
Crazy K
I broke every single bolt on my 75 electra's water pump........ took the pump off and all the shafts could all be turned out.... If you take the pipe off, do you think you would be able to do the same? Otherwise autozone carries a cheap ($8 IIRC) set of easy outs, I bought and used them to take a broken steering wheel bolt out of a steering wheel. birdman
they sell these things at napa that you drill a hole in the bolt and then start to thread this thing in and it grips it and gets it out, sorry for the bad description but they work great. GutlessSupreme
OH SHIT!!! Part of the rear bolt broke off in the timing chain cover, How should I get it out???? don't worry about it, I broke the front one off a year ago on the Cutlass. It never leaked once until the past time I took it off. I just RTV'd it up made sure it was bolted down good, it was fine. just don't break the other one... and yes it's called the "waterpump bypass gasket," at least as far as NAPA's concerned. it's only a few bucks. i don't think NAPA stocks them but I'd avoid the cork gasket.. it seemed to hold up even worse than the metalish material one. a cork one came with my fel-pro lower intake gasket.. I won't be using it.
