timg
The steering in my 95 Z34 is a bit too slow for spirited driving. Is there a higher ratio steering rack available on another w-body that will bolt in and give me faster steering? I'd like to have something a bit more sporty. Thanks. Tim How many turns lock to lock is yours now? There are 3, 2.5 and 2.25 turn lock to lock racks available. 3 was standard, 2.5 was TGP/STE, maybe Z34s and the like and then I think only Cutty Intls could get the 2.
mihela816
TGP's had the higest ratio steering, followed by z34's, GTP's and cutty international.
Prospeeder
I think my TGPs is 2.25 or 2.5 its not a full 3 turns, but these cars have a wide turn radius
mfewtrail
The TGP racks are a 14.0:1 ratio whereas other standard racks at that time were listed to be 15.7:1 ratio(I assume that meant "FE1" racks). There are part #'s along with a lot of info in this old thread about steering ratios. http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6934&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=tgp+turns&start=
timg
I wonder how steering feel compares. I don't like the thought of having a bigger turning radius, but quicker steering sounds great. I drive mountain roads much more than I park! The catalogue says a 36-9023 rack was used in the 95 Z34. I guess the upgrade would be the 36-9021. Tim
timg
I searched for a steering rack for a 90 GP on GMPD and got this part #. 26044830 Any idea which rack this is? My 95 Z34 showed the same rack. The 97-99's had a different part # for both the soft ride and firm ride options. The 15" wheel option also had a different rack. timg
Here are the links themselves. It's a pretty impressive car. GutlessSupreme
The difference between my FE1 Cutlass rack and my FE3 TGP/TSTE racks is insane. Driving just feels so much more direct with the TGP rack, I hate the grandma ratio on the Cutlass. It takes a lot of cranking that wheel to complete a turn in the Cutlass.. When I would go from driving my dads TGP to my Lumina, usually I would take the first corner I took really wide, then getting back in the TGP I'd take the corners really narrow. The difference is insane. You don't really notice how much quicker it is in the TGP's until you get in another w-body. Shawn
