95oldsVan
My Van has the 3800 engine so hope ya dont mind me asking here as well since its a very common engine. If you have the EGR deleted by reprogramming the prom,do you still experience detonation?Does the stock cams usually have enough to bleed off excess cylinder pressures if you disable the egr? This engine will PING like a mofo if the egr is unplugged(electronic) but I had other cars that didnt have much of a problem doing so,except through a code light or screw up nox emnissions or something.Driveability was the same.So I was just wondering what may be involved with systems that get theirs disabled through the prom or pcm. Thanks.
DiscoStudd
I don't know about the drivability issues, but I can tell you that the early L27's (91 and 92) with the gray aluminum upper intake manifold didn't have an EGR valve on them at all. They added the EGR in 93 (coincidentally along with the switch to the black composite intake) because, from what I hear, the earlier non-EGR L27's had a tendency to burn up their exhaust valves due to the lack of an EGR. Not sure if that'll help you any, but thought I'd mention it anyway ...
95oldsVan
Hey Buddy, Thanks for the reply...the 95 has the plastic upper junky intake and egr set up.Btw,will the eaton SC require to bypass the egr? This was one reason I posted this but had planning to send an email.Might as well ask now. DiscoStudd
I'll have to look at the Supercharger again. I also have a bunch of pics of the 94-95 L67 (at home, though) that I can scan to see if the EGR was present. I'll keep ya posted...
DiscoStudd
Well, judging by these pics, the EGR is present on the 94-95 L67: Here's where the pipe from the EGR valve connects to:
95oldsVan
Thanks buddy! I can see its going to require a few additional parts here and there.I noticed it has 2 drive belts?Sort of like there was an extension pulley at the tensioner? And the alternator is moved to where my P/S pump would be...oh boy...gonna have to get some brackets and etc and hope they fit,etc...lol...thanks again for the pics.Thise help alot! The egr valve looks the same minus how the pipe attaches to the manifold.I think it can be done OK...
