supreme_style21 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 My car had an intermittent miss earlier. I changed the fuel filter (something the consistency and appearance of mud came out of that), plugs, wires, and one coil pack, as the post was full of carbon arc tracks. Did the ol' 'cure-all' idle relearn. Now all it does is chug. Thats the only word I can think of to describe it. Kinda compare it to an old steam train.. chug chug chug chug. I checked and rechecked the plugs and wires, everything is routed properly and hooked up firmly. The last thing I did was plugs and wires, and thereafter is when the problems got worse. Plugs/Wires are ACDelco and gapped to 060. I can't see any vacuum lines or electrical plugs that I knocked loose. I gotta be on the road bright and early tomorrow for a job interview... Help!! Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 ICM?? When the ICM failed on my car, it would miss intermitintly on 2 cylinders when it was humid outside. At the end, it missed constantly on those same two. Quote

Crazy K Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 spark check each wire. Maybe the new coil is defective? Quote

My coil/icm problem was not intermittent. Quote
1990lumina Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Is this just at idle, or at other rpms ranges as well?? My friend's 2.4 Z24 chugges at idle...he suspects the IAC or EGR valve, but hasn't got around to fixing anything yet. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 Just went and splurged on an ICM. Didn't fix it. It HELPED.. but it didn't completely cure it. I'll go spark check the wires in a sec. It just seems to be an idle issue, as far as I can tell.. haven't taken it down the road yet. It'll spit between 900 and 1000RPM at idle. Quote

My coil/icm problem was not intermittent. Does anyone have an Emoticon that shows it eating words? Well I retract that statement. It idles a LITTLE better, but as soon as you drop 'er into gear, it almost dies and chugs and misses... I was barely able to back out of the driveway and get back into the garage, so the ICM most certainly did not fix it Quote
supreme_style21 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 And if it matters, I didn't disconnect the battery during.. well, anything. And two plugs broke off above the threads, but they came out fine. And no SES codes. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 idle relearn it! i have. numerous times. that seems to be the w-body fix-all, but it didn't fix this. FAWK. shoulda just left well enough alone. and it smells really super rich too. Quote
Crazy K Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 result from spark checking the wires? You could have one coil not working. Quote

DOHCRagtopguy Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Perhaps you cracked one spark plug slightly when you put them in? Quote
Pabz Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Perhaps you cracked one spark plug slightly when you put them in? Happened to me twice, Did you take off and check the other coils. All I know is when the ICM/Coils go best thing to do is replace everything including wires and plugs, U'll have to do it eventually. It should throw a code though. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 I cannot get it to throw ANY code. Just to see if I could get it into its closed loop, I unplugged the O2 sensor and the AIT plug, as those have always thrown codes immediately for me in the past... this time, it made no difference, no SES light. Does that mean anything? The other two coils were visually flawless. I guess I'll have to take the plugs back out and check those. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 When I changed my plugs I put in regular AC Delcos. It was misfiring turned out one of the new plugs was bad. It looked ok but when I put an old plug back in it ran fine... Quote
supreme_style21 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 ah a plug was wrecked. finally! thanks a ton guys! Quote
