GOT2B GM Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I was driving home today from work, and noticed that it was holding 2nd gear fairly long. Didn't think too much of it, until I was accelerating hard merging onto the freeway. I had to let out of the gas for it to shift out of 2nd at 6500+RPM. Once I got home, I checked the fluid which was full and slightly brown, but not burn't. Took it for another little drive and I figured out that I don't have 3rd gear. It doesn't matter if you try to manually shift it. If you put it in drive, it'll just stay in 2nd. Driving normally in OD, it'll hold 2nd longer until it'll shift into 4th. I had this trans rebuilt in Oct 2004 to the tune of $2000 CDN. It also has a shift kit and adjustable modulator on it. It has worked flawlessly for 40,000 kms until today. It still works perfect except for no 3rd. Do you guys think it could be a solenoid or something gone bad? I am leaning towards something electrical due to the lack of warning signs that mechanical problems usually give before failure. I'm probably going to book an appointment at the tranny shop tomorrow but, any input is appreciated. Just don't tell me to swap a 284 into it. I already have a 284 equipped Z, but that's another project. Oh yeah, I can't help but notice there's three auto Z34's with tranny issues on the board right now. (mine, slick94prix, and dohc v6) Quote
chadz34 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Yeah, there are a few tranny problems. Take it to your local transmission shop and see what they say. I'm wondering myself what would make you lose just one gear? Quote
