Rocketman
I have started using my 94 GP as a daily driver now. I'm having a few issues with it. 1. Usually when i'm going between 45-60 and I apply throttle, the car starts to buck gently and wont go anywhere. I have to let off the gas and reapply pressure in order for it to go fine. I think the TCC is locked and it tries to downshift. I can tell the TCC locks fine but i dont know why its doing this. I tried to unplug the plug on the front of the transmission and all of the sudden my car wouldnt downshift. (started in 3rd several times) Any ideas? 2. When I'm at WOT the car seems to hesitate, like something is holding it back. Could this be an EGR problem? It doesnt feel like a misfire or knock or anything but something is just holding it back. Its a 94 Grand Prix SE, 3100SFI, Im pretty sure I have the 4T60e transmission. -Rocketman
Crazy K
ok... on #1 Your car has a fully electronic tranmission, that plug controls everything. If you disconnect it you leave the car in 'limp mode", it leaves the car in third gear so you can at least get to help.... That trick only worked on the older non-electronic trannies, the 3 speed auto for sure, but I don''t know if that includes the older O/D type... #2 last tune-up? type of plugs? filters changed? Rocketman
heh, allright I figured it was something like that. I'm not sure what plugs are in it now, i pulled them when i did the headgasket and they looked OK so I put them back in. I was going to change them this week. The air filter is fine, had an oil change 500 miles ago. I'm stumped about the TCC thing. I can feel it lock up (rpms drop a bit) and then I'll go to accelerate and it tries to downshift but the TCC stays locks and the transmission bucks. Its weird. Crazy K
how about the tranny fluid? when was it last changed? Could it be a delayed shift from old fluid???? For plugs, I just get regular acdelcos. Although the acdelco rapid fires are said to be good. How about the filters while you are at it? My 95 CS is a bit weak from a dirty air filter i haven't changed, plus I removed a nest from the air box when it was feeling really weak... it looked like the guts of an old couch! IMO (and in many others)No Bosch plugs, and NO multi-tipped multi-spark plugs. They don't work well in our application.
Rocketman
I'll keep that in mind when I get plugs. I'm not sure about the tranny fluid. The level looked OK and the fluid looked good, not burnt. I dont know when it was last changed. If I knew how to I would. Could it be a tps problem? Not disengaging the tcc early enough? Crazy K
Could be low fluid pressure casued by old fluid and dirty trans filter. Tranny fluid change is not hard. I suggest doing it. A good manual would tell you how. You can get the kit from most any autostore and the fluid. But when you remove it i like to use an old "rubbermais" type flat pan that is large enough that all the fluid will drain into it, as the tranny has no drain plug. You just spin all the bolts loose, and let it dribble, basically. Utilize SEARCH. I'm sure you'll find something. IIRC the pan is held on by 10 mm bolts. I also like to add a super Neodymium magnet as they are superior to the basic factory magnet. Rocketman
Wierd, changed the plugs today for shits n giggles, and all the problems I was having dissapeared. The plugs I pulled out werent bad at all. Maybe I moved a loose connection or something but it runs great now and I'm really happy with the power. Wierd. -Rocketman

rockfangd
this seems very close to the symptoms of my car, but i changed the fluid in the tranny with valvoline high mileage fluid and a new filter, new plugs and wires, air filter, checked and replaced bad vacumn lines, you name it, i am quite confused as i am not the only one to notice
