lakefxgp96
I got a 99 LTZ sway bar. Im not sure what size this thing is but it its considrably bigger than the 95-99 swaybay on the base lumina/monte carlo. Im guessing its a 22? I also grabbed the mounting hardware for it from the junkyard but only saw one of the two bushings. Where Can i get poly ones? Found these on JCWhitney, is this accurate? Bushings for 7/8" Sway Bars, Smaller Brackets Kit ZX887544N $12.99 and also do i have enough to do a direct swap into my 96 GP? Thanks for the help! mihela816
The LTZ has coil overs in the rear, and the 96 gp has a monoleaf. I don't think the LTZ bar will work at all on your car.
jeremy
did the LTZ still have the leather interior? if so please PM me the yard's information thanks
lakefxgp96
Interior was scavenged already. A few people have told me it does work, it all mounts the same way. I guess i will have to try it to be sure.
GrandPrixGTP95
The only difference between a monoleaf rear and the coil rear is the spring setup. If you took off the struts and monoleaf from a gp, and put on a coil spring strut setup, and added the sway bar, you'd have the same rear suspension setup as a monte. The sway bar will bolt up 8)
mihela816
If it clears the monoleaf.
GrandPrixGTP95
It clears the monoleaf. The leaf is on the underside, the sway bar is more towards the floorboard
lakefxgp96
Thanks Brandon! I had thought so. Ill track some bushings down and get this beast installed!

The strut towers on the 1.5 gens are much larger to accomodate the spring and the strut mounts are 3 bolts instead of 2.

You can swap everything over with the monte strut knuckle and your all set. My concern was whether i needed to modify anything or whether i needed any additional parts. Im concered though that ill have to use junk yard bushings...i cant find any normal rubber bushings either.
GrandPrixGTP95
Yeah I had a 96 monte rear suspension setup in the rear of my 90 SE. I just had the drill 3 new holes in the rear strut towers. Other than that, everything goes just as I said
GnatGoSplat
Does that even fit? More than one person told me the Monte rear sway bars don't fit right.

Is the camber the same? The only other member I'm aware that has a Monte rear ended up cutting out the old strut towers and welding in the Monte ones. wickedbuick
I would like some pics of the monte rear conversion or a writeup maybe I NEED to get rid of that leaf!! I know it can be done but working 50+ hours and still not having lots of "play money", I need to get it right the first time
Crazy K
looking at the photos from cardomain, it looks like he used new gen 1.5 struts and custom springs.....
CSI_MuNkY
Honestly, a coil over conversion can be done on the cheap now. Parts are available from Adco (your local after market parts store should be able to get them no problem, if not I KNOW Summit carries them) And the upper mounts can be easily purchased from DOHC v6. wickedbuick
Does that still use the old lateral links or can you use the newer stock montes or tubular ones? I would like coil overs but at the same time I can then use monte lowering springs with the swap. Not looking to change the hight after its set and not really slam it either. I just want to make it stiffer and tougher than it is now...
CSI_MuNkY
With coil overs you can set the height wherever you want, up or down. If your gf is a porker like my ex you can even jack up the passenger side so that when she is in the car it sits level! LMAO With coil overs you can use whatever lateral links and trailing arms you want. But keep in mind, as already mentioned, 2nd gen lateral links WILL push the wheels outward at least another half an inch, which may cause rubbing depending on how low you go and what wheel/tire combination you have. I have the Held Lateral links and trailing arms on mine. BMR also makes a tubular set. Jamie
wickedbuick
OK sounds great. I don't plan on slammin it maybe 1 1/2" gap....have to decide when I see it but thats what I think I'll do. I am lookin into making a tubular rear cradle and hopefully save some weight. Even if it doesn't the mounting location for the laterals could be moved in a 1/4" each side or whatever the difference is with 2nd gen laterals...
