Muh car is dead

Ok, not quite dead yet. Few days ago, she started missing JUST a LITTLE bit when ya hit the accelerator.. barely noticable. Few blocks later, it would idle so sporadically at a stop, then when you hit the gas, it seemed like it'd die, then jerk forward and go. Thought perhaps I was nearly out of gas(or had bad gas) as the thing was near 'E'. Studdered into the gas station just a block ahead, shut it off and filled it up. Cranked a little longer than normal, but idled fine thereafter. I changed the fuel filter 'just-in-case' later that day. Its ran fine ever since and I thought the problem was solved. yay.

Tonite, it started doing the same thing. I didn't have time to deal with it, so I dropped it off in the driveway and took one of my other cars. Later on, just to see what it'd do, I took it out and it ran perfectly for the half hour I was out.

Whats wrong? I wanted to say plugs or wires, which I'll change tomorrow, but the sporadicness of it doesn't point to those, IMO. Anything and everything in this car has an unknown amount of miles on it. I bought it at 94k and I have 111k on it now and I've done nothing and have no idea as to what has been done in the past. No SES either. Anyone care to point me in a direction?

well with that mileage i'd change the plugs/wires out of principal. see where that gets you, but i want to point my finger at coils/icm

:werd: I'd change plugs and wires though. Can't hurt anything.

Yeah I bought delco plugs and wires for it about a year ago... they're still sitting on the shelf in the garage. I'm headed out the door to change those. Yay.

that's why mine's triple safe,

green, 94, and a different trim level ;)

toss a new PCV in there with the plugs and wires, can't go wrong.

Double check the ground that the coil pack uses, I have seen them act like this you replace everything and then a few days later the problem magically reappears as though you have done very little to it. PCV valve is a good idea also!!!!

If you need any test parts I have coil packs and an ICM off of an 89 something or other here in town, you're welcome to try them.

I had a stumble off-idle (coming off a stoplight, etc). Eventually progressed into a terrible rough idle (but sporadically). One day, hell one hour it would run fine, then next it would run like crap. I found one of my EGR solenoids was sticking. My 95 "OBD 1.5" never threw an EGR code, but I've driven around the past month or so w/the EGR valve unplugged and have no more hesitation/rough drivability. Might want to check it just in case.

Will certainly check!

PCV is fairly new as well.

I will also suggest that the fuel pump is on it's way out. The Bonneville did something very similar when the pump went out. It would run fine when it was cold, then after about 25 minutes it would start to stumble and die. Then it really sucked for me because I was out in the middle of noware. lol

Ah thats the problem. Its still doing what its been doing. I did the fuel filter, plugs and wires. I wanna look at the coils and ICM and the EGR before I do anything else.. But I guess if it takes its final shit sometime soon, I'll be able to tell if its the fuel pump or not.
