loominaz34 Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Just when I thought I wasout of the woods, My car decides it doesn't like going fast anymore. My symptoms are Bad idle (missses, jerks, dies...) , Less power than a civic, I also noticed that While doing an ignition test, the car would run with either the 2/5 or the 3/6 coils disconnected, but if I disconnect the 1/4, the engine dies in less than a second. help me, please. DiscoStudd Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 Sounds to me like the car's only running on the 1/4 coil and the 2/5 3/6 coils are shot... Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 New coils could be in order for your car. Quote

I use a screw driver and lay in ontop of the engine...... This will verify that they are dead..... Although this might be the simple issue, don't overlook bad spark plugs as well.... a weak coil coupled with worn out plugs doesn't do much, after all. Quote
jeremy Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 I was going to ask about the condition of the wires, but I would lean towards the coil pack as well... Quote

loominaz34 Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 Wires are old but all deliver the same spark. According to my carbureted friends, it's running rich enough to be loading up on gas. Not quite sure what to do about it. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 31, 2005 Report Posted December 31, 2005 ummm check engine light on? (does it work?) I had an experience with one injector on a 3.1 engine that would stick and lood the engine....... (just a thought) One other thing.... even if all the wires spark, it is possible for the coils to be week. Anyone know how to test a coil? (i think you can check their resistance, but I don't have my service manual with me.) Quote
