Dark Ride Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 If I want to put MSD Coils In my TGP, where is the best place to buy them? Also if anyone happens to know what are the Part Numbers are for them, that would be great, and is there anything I Need to do to make them work, besides New Spark Plugs and Wires. Thanks, Mitch Quote
RareGMFan Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 If you're talking just the direct replacement coils (not an entire MSD ignition system set-up), the part number is 8224, cheapest I found them was at http://www.jegs.com @ $41.99 a piece, and no, you don't need anything else to make them work. By the way, they will add absolutely zero performance. They burn no hotter than the stock Delco ones. If you buy them, it will be strictly for looks. Quote
Dark Ride Posted December 27, 2005 Author Report Posted December 27, 2005 Thanks I Think Mine Are Junk So I was thinking of replacing them when I start rebuilding the engine. By the way you mentioned an entire MSD Setup, what would that involve doing, and would it improve Performance at all? Sorry I'm pretty new to this stuff Thanks, Mitch Quote
Prospeeder Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 i hear MSD ones are unreliable, id go with delco again, but your choice Quote
Pontiac6KSTEAWD Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 Go with the delco replacements. And make sure to stay away from any brand that does not come from AC Delco. You can buy them on ebay from "reclaimed parts". I bought a set brand new with ICM and all three coils from a car with 2 miles on it for 15 bucks. One hell of a deal if you ask me. Quote
92 GP Posted December 27, 2005 Report Posted December 27, 2005 Definately go with Delco's. I've personally seen several cars with MSD packs, and only ONE is still running with them. Most of them switched back because one or more of the packs died after only a few thousand miles! They're actually less powerful than the stock ones, and the stock ones will last almost forever Quote
TurboGTU Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 As for a replacement..I was looking at 3*00 coil packs and modual. I've noticed the gm manual calls for a wider spark plug gap..must be higher intence spark in them. Quote
92 GP Posted December 28, 2005 Report Posted December 28, 2005 has anyone tried the 3800 packs? From what i've seen they mount the same Quote
Dark Ride Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 Sounds Like I'll Put Delco Coils In Thanks for the help Much Appreciated Quote
