Any good fix for wheelhop?

slick

Recommended Posts

I was messing around the other night, and was cruising at about 20 MPH, and got on it. Yeah, had tons of wheelhop, so I didn't move as fast as I was hoping for. This was on completely dry pavement with my stock Z34 wheels and tires as well. So far the suspension is this car has been beefed up pretty damn well. The mods are as follows:

ST front lowering springs with KYB-GR2's

All new front suspension components (ball joints, strut mounts, tie rod ends, but I'm replacing the ball joints again)

Front GM STB

GMPP trailing arms

So... is there any cure for this, or am I putting out a decent amount of power??

This can be moved if not in the right section.

Find a cow and strap it to the hood, the added wieght will keep you on the road.

Oh yeah, find the cow they used in Twister, it's a celebrity and will get you more notice!

You're breaking traction momentarily?

Or a continuous slip-catch-slip-catch-slip-catch?

well.. the only thing i can think about in your situation is your tires are out of round/blance. get the tires balanced and see if that dosnt help. other then that. i have no idea why you would be hopping. i know you have a boss motor in there but not even 300+whp motors wheelhop in our cars.

ohh did you check tire air preasure?

It was a slip-catch-slip-catch situation. It was definately wheel hop, as I have felt it in my dad's 95 Impala before.

Engine mods as follows:

95 Crate engine

Heads shaved to increase compression 10.5:1

5 angle valve job

P&P intake and exhaust ports

Tranny mods:

3.73 gearing

shift kit

3000 rpm converter

Hd internals

So I definately know it's not the tranny slipping. It has less than 30,000 miles on it.

Air pressure was a bit on the low side. I haven't got on it recently, as the roads have been crappy due to horrible weather, but the tires are at proper psi right now.

Any other ideas?

Well I don't know what 300+whp w-bodies you've been driving, but the ones I've driven definately wheel hop and they do it at speeds in excess of 40mph.

The balljoint is not what is causing the car to wheelhop. You need to stiffen the rear suspension of the car to try to keep more weight over the front, the problem is probably truly that you have way to steep of a gear.
