slick Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 I was messing around the other night, and was cruising at about 20 MPH, and got on it. Yeah, had tons of wheelhop, so I didn't move as fast as I was hoping for. This was on completely dry pavement with my stock Z34 wheels and tires as well. So far the suspension is this car has been beefed up pretty damn well. The mods are as follows: ST front lowering springs with KYB-GR2's All new front suspension components (ball joints, strut mounts, tie rod ends, but I'm replacing the ball joints again) Front GM STB GMPP trailing arms So... is there any cure for this, or am I putting out a decent amount of power?? This can be moved if not in the right section. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Find a cow and strap it to the hood, the added wieght will keep you on the road. Oh yeah, find the cow they used in Twister, it's a celebrity and will get you more notice! You're breaking traction momentarily? Or a continuous slip-catch-slip-catch-slip-catch? Quote
PeNZ Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 Your probably feeling power be transfered more than anything Quote
Crazy K Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 are you sure you weren;t making your tranny slip? Quote
birdman Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 what engine mods do you have because wheelhop at 20 seems weird Quote
sonyman87 Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 well.. the only thing i can think about in your situation is your tires are out of round/blance. get the tires balanced and see if that dosnt help. other then that. i have no idea why you would be hopping. i know you have a boss motor in there but not even 300+whp motors wheelhop in our cars. ohh did you check tire air preasure? Quote
slick Posted December 17, 2005 Author Report Posted December 17, 2005 It was a slip-catch-slip-catch situation. It was definately wheel hop, as I have felt it in my dad's 95 Impala before. Engine mods as follows: 95 Crate engine Heads shaved to increase compression 10.5:1 5 angle valve job P&P intake and exhaust ports Tranny mods: 3.73 gearing shift kit 3000 rpm converter Hd internals So I definately know it's not the tranny slipping. It has less than 30,000 miles on it. Air pressure was a bit on the low side. I haven't got on it recently, as the roads have been crappy due to horrible weather, but the tires are at proper psi right now. Any other ideas? Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 my dad's Quad 4 5-speed car gets wheelhop if you 1-2 shift really fast...but then again his front struts are shot! Quote
slick Posted December 17, 2005 Author Report Posted December 17, 2005 Hmm... I know my front suspension is good besides for one faulty balljoint, and its too damn cold to replace that right now(unless someone will be my friend and let me use there garage ). Quote
slick Posted December 17, 2005 Author Report Posted December 17, 2005 I guess when I head up to Tony's(5speedz34) house this week, I'll bring my ball joint along. Quote
dbtk2 Posted December 17, 2005 Report Posted December 17, 2005 i know you have a boss motor in there but not even 300+whp motors wheelhop in our cars. Well I don't know what 300+whp w-bodies you've been driving, but the ones I've driven definately wheel hop and they do it at speeds in excess of 40mph. The balljoint is not what is causing the car to wheelhop. You need to stiffen the rear suspension of the car to try to keep more weight over the front, the problem is probably truly that you have way to steep of a gear. Shawn Quote
Canada Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Better tires. Or really shitty ones that just spin. Quote
AWeb80 Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Slick, any idea what that motor puts out at the crank and wheels? Quote
slick Posted December 18, 2005 Author Report Posted December 18, 2005 Slick, any idea what that motor puts out at the crank and wheels? No idea. Sometime in the spring i'm going to go over to Ben's to have it tuned and dyno tuned as well. Quote
GP1138 Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Stop storing rabbits in your wheel wells? Quote
