fargo_182 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 long story short 3.4 DOHC came home sunday night after snow boarding, started to drive my car home, car stalls, won't start. fuel pump kicks on, pulled one of the plug wires, no spark. Monday towed to dealership. Don't look at it til today "are you sure its not just out of gas" mechanic says, FUCK YOU!!! im not a retard. runs for 10 min, then stalls, its running no codes at all any ideas? could it be the ignition module? or more likely computer? or could it be corroded wires? I hate mechanics If it wasn't so cold i would have fixed it monday myself Quote
Pabz Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 are you sure its not just out of gas? I had to!!! start with plugs n wires. Quote
fargo_182 Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 plugs and wires are less than a year old. wouldnt it just run like shit if it was the wires, before it totally went for a shit? it runs like a top...well until sunday. Quote
Pabz Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 91-93 injector problem??? so some searching on the 3.4 stalling. Quote
5speedz34 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 3.4 stalling is only a 5speed thing. Does it just die or does it buck, and act stupid and everything? Quote
DOHCRagtopguy Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 First suspects: 1) Ignition Module 2) Crank Sensor Quote
Crazy K Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 First suspects: 1) Ignition Module 2) Crank Sensor x2 agreed. I would say the ignition module, I have seen on 3800 motors that an ignition module which is failing will work cold but fails when hot. I've heard you could cool one down by dousing it with water, and if the car will then start, you've isolated your problem. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? You'd risk mixing water with electricity, but it is a sealed unit.... Quote
pwmin Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 "are you sure its not just out of gas" mechanic says, FUCK YOU!!! im not a retard. I hate mechanics that wasnt an insult to you. that happens a lot of times. i hate mechanics because my dad is one and i hate him and sometimes i am and i hate myself FUCK YOU!!! Quote

fargo_182 Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 doesn't buck just quits. stupid question? i have a keyless start, i think it turns off after that long, but it wouldnt explain it not being able to turn it back over... They can drive it in and out of the shop, but it wont run for long. I should just make them change the damn ignition module. Bet you $1000 they say "it must be a computer problem. let's change it and then charge you to change the ignition module a week later like we should of the first time" Quote
Crazy K Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 I'd take that bet! j/k I don't want your money man. You're gonna need it. but you mention a keyless start.... does it start normally with the key? if so that wouldn't be an issue. it is possible that it could be a bad computer as well, the water test would work on that as well. But I think module more likely. Quote
manitcor Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 check your CPS wire first, it on the ignition module on the drivers side, the smaller connector. Follow it down the back of the block the best you can, check for frays or wear. If that looks good and is tight on both ends then grab a multimeter and check your coil packs (unlikely this is the problem but you might as well check). Test resistance across the towers. It should be about 5000ohms. If your coilpacks are ok then either A) buy an ign module from an autoparts store and pay about $100 or buy an entire bracket coilpacks and all from a u-pull junkyard for about $30. (personally I would do . It COULD be a bad computer however its highly doubtful. Quote
joey b Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 3.4 stalling is only a 5speed thing. Does it just die or does it buck, and act stupid and everything? No, my 92 had the same problem, and its an auto. Injectors from a 94 fixed it. Quote
fargo_182 Posted December 19, 2005 Author Report Posted December 19, 2005 well after a week of bullshit, they are finally changing the crank sensor (hopefully they don't break it) If the crank sensor does not work, I'm buying the ICM and changing it myself, hell if I'm going to pay like $500 to do that, I'd rather buy a new car. If it does not work after that time for a bonfire. Quote
