Crazy K
Actually it could be a 4t60-e or a 4t65-E Both trannies were availible according to what I have found... BUT the bottom pan of the tranny most likely will tell you.

I always figured it was a 60. THANKS ALOT!!!
Crazy K
the lumina being a red-headed-step-child probably got the 4t60-e. The 97 century is a gen 2 W, and a twin of the 97+ regal.
99RegalGS
The only cars that got the 4T65-E in 97 are L67 equipped cars.

M-I-A
Today I finally got off my butt and on the ground to check for numbers. I didnt find any so I just got the VIN # and called the stealership. Turns out I got the 4T60E. I asked him which if any years got the 65E and he said the same years. I asked whats the differnece and why they would put different trannys in the same years. And of course he didnt know. If this guy is right about 2 diff trannys in the same year. What would be the purpose and whats the difference on the two. Thanks
Crazy K
4t65e will be a heavier duty tranny. I'm not sure how different it is, but I think It's virtually identical, except for a few heavier duty internal parts, from info I read... It is capable of more torque and such. The people above seem to be correct, the 3100 motors would apparently be linked to the 4t60e, but the more powervul 3800 (w or w/o supercharger, I think) would be linked to the 4t65-e

However, if it was available with the 65, its probably for one with the towing package...thats the only thing I can think of. Shawn
DiscoStudd
According to Rebuilt-Auto-Transmissions Dot Com, the "Sentry" got the 60-E through 99. ...
Prospeeder
they have TGP trannies on there! whats the diff between the 2 they list tho...
dbtk2
they have TGP trannies on there! whats the diff between the 2 they list tho... I'm not sure what the difference is, however there were 3 different trannies put in TGP's between '89 & '90. So you just have to match up the code to yours, although I think all of them will work in any of them. I know that my STE and my dads TGP both have OLAH. Prospeeder
oh, different gearing, different strengths mabye, i wonder....
dbtk2
oh, different gearing, different strengths mabye, i wonder.... No, not different gearing, they all have 3.33:1. I've looked into it a little and just don't know what the differences are. They probably made updates throughout the year and its probably not even something you would notice. It might just be a change in the valve body or something. I know its not a major change and any of them should work in a TGP regardless of if the number matches or not.
