AWeb80 Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 Ya....i'll be the odd one out now.....now is a frankenstien car.....1st and 2nd gen.... Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 hmm...seems kinda strange...other than your positioning for the brights sign it looks just like the HUD in my '94...the 97+ hud has much smaller MPH and also has a spot that shows the radio frequency and if there is a cd or tape in. Quote
AWeb80 Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 yes, but the 94-96 HUD's don't have the "Check Gauges" Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 ok, i didn't know about 94-96 gp's...cause i have one on the HUD in my cutlass lol my numbers are MUCH bigger than they are on my mom's 97 GP GT Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 yes, but the 94-96 HUD's don't have the "Check Gauges" Are you positive? I was pretty sure all gen 1 HUDs did.. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 And you couldn't have figured this out by just looking down in the HUD unit with a flashlight and seeing the extra numbers for the radio display? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Original HUD's got the check gauges until 93-ish and the 94-6 HUDs had the warning icons instead. the reason the turn signal, brights, etc are on becuase those pins are getting the input for an oil and battery icon. The numbers on the 97 HUD you have are much smaller than what you would have had with the 94-6 HUD. 97+ HUD's added radio frequency in the same amount of space, so the speed display shrunk in size to fit everything in the same sized unit. It will be interesting to see if the OBD2 speedometer will work in the OBD1.5 car... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 FYI in 89-91, it was spelled "Check Gauges" and in 97-03 it was "Check Gages" Quote
AWeb80 Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 It will be interesting to see if the OBD2 speedometer will work in the OBD1.5 car... I thought my car was OBD 1, its a 94. and thanks for correcting me on the MPH thing, i thought the 97+ was bigger..... Quote
J Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 next newer gp i find in the yard, the interior is comming out and i am swapping the ENTIRE interior. Including HUD (thats gonna be fun ) Quote

J Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 nah just jealous of your car!!!! I have more appearance mods then you, but your suspension blows mine away, and your stock interior is much better, gotta keep up with the jones! Quote
AWeb80 Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 I thought you had a bunch of susp. stuff done. Quote
J Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 nope just base suspension, with ST springs, new front end, and coilovers. The sway bars are going on in the summer  Quote
GOT2B GM Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 About the HUD, I didn't think it was supposed to even be on with the key in the ACC position. ???? Could be wrong tho. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Mine comes on in accesory. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Only the radio's supposed to come on in accessory, as far as I know. HUDs should only come on with the key on "ON", started or not Quote
AWeb80 Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 Yes, tony, my key is turned forward....to the ON position, but engine not running... I guess, accessory is turned back ...my key if forward. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 wipers turn on too. so you can watch movies. no joke. turn the key backwards for accessory. Quote
99RegalGS Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Too bad you didn't have a factory deck in there still... Then you could use the Radio part of the HUD. Glad you figured out the problem though. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Only 97+ decks have the radio output to the HUD... Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Ya, all i have to do is change the pins....and i'll be the only 94 GP with a 97+ HUD.... Maybe the only 94, but someone on ClubGP put a 97 HUD in his white 94-96 body GTP a few years ago. I think his name was Gus? He had a 97+ stereo too, so the radio station display worked. It will be interesting to see if the OBD2 speedometer will work in the OBD1.5 car... What difference does it make? HUD doesn't use any communication with the DLC. It's hooked directly to VSS which is the same on W's from 88 to at least 03. Only the 04+ HUDs are completely DLC driven. Quote

Brain Teel put one in his 96 i believe and echo1999 ....Thanks Shawn, I thought that was right about the VSS...as i was looking at Brian Teels pin chart.... Quote
