briandors
I went to a local auto parts store to buy a fuel pressure gauge. The type that screws onto the Schrader valve. At the store, the gauge said it was for use in a lot of different cars (Fords, GMs, Chryslers, etc.) from the 80s to 1996. Nothing was listed after 1996. That left me confused, because if possible I'd like to buy something compatible with new cars. Did they change the size of the valve after 1996? Or is the package wrong? It was an Actron brand. It would be IDEAL if it could service: 89 Regal, 95 Cutlass, 99 Contour SVT, 96 Altima, 02 Alero. Brian 95 Cutlass
LumiDriver
I thought they stopped using schraders in the late 90s
briandors
So how do you check fuel pressure on a new car? I know my parents 2002 Alero has a valve by the fuel rail.
Bossman429
They should be the same. I know on older Chryslers (and Fords?) the schrader was smaller, and that's why there is an adapter with most gauge kits. Most all new cars that DO have a valve are the same size. Many imports I have seen don't have a schrader valve, in those cases you use a T-fitting (which also comes in a good kit) to T into the system and check pressure that way. I bought a fuel gauge at Auto Zone for about $40 that had most every fitting you would ever need. THey usually sell a single gauge, then have another "kit" that has a gauge with adapters. Bossman429
Something like this: Should have everything you should need. Has the T fitting, and the adapter. I think mine is the Actron brand. I might have gotten it at O'Reillys

And that thing was not cheap at all
3pt1lumina
I'm 99% sure they are all the same. In shop class, we used the same one on a 2.2 88 Corsica (shop car) as we did on my dad's 97 Lumina 3100... no problems it worked fine. z34Phoenix
just make sure it is for fuel injection. i have seen these sweet fuel pressure gauges at autozone, only to find out they are for carb's. fuel injected cars run much higher pressure and that sweet tiny inline gauge wouldnt handle the pressure
