ughh found another problem.

About a week ago, when I took off the TB, looking for the oil pump drive seal, I found a little puddle of oil in the intake manifold  This was a complete shock to me, but I think Ive narrowed it down to what it could be. I think it could be (1) a bad PCV valve, thats sucking the oil up and just dumping it off there, (2) a bad intake gasket. I doubt a lower intake gasket would do this.

Any thoughts or opinions on this one? And is it something that I should fix right away, or can it wait till spring when I tear down the engine.

if the pcv valve isnt clogged and the little thing inside moves around, thats not the problem. so, if thats not the case, than that eliminates that. when you say intake manifold do you mean upper or lower in this case?

Upper intake. When I took the TB off there was a little puddle of oil on the bottom and what it looked like it was just sprayed with oil on the inside of it. Like it had that brownish color to it. and it wasnt carbon.

a little oil in the intake is normal. if its more than a little (not sure how big the puddle was) def check the pcv valve.

i agree. it's kinda normal for some oil mist to get sucked through the systems. I often see a puddle of oil in the air flex hose, coming through the platic tube that links to the front valve cover (3.1 motor)

This was deff more than normal though. Every time before when I took the TB off, it really wasnt even dirty at all! Now the whole inside is covered in oil and the puddle of oil was actually rather large. Its gotta be the oil is gettin sucked up through the pcv valve, which is not suppose to happen.

it can't be the upper and the lower one *if* it leaked would only dump oil in just short of the valves.

I recall the pcv is right on the front valve cover of the 3100. Just change it and check again soon.
