Stupid question

pushrod engines = they have pushrods = cam is down in the block. the cam pushes up lifters, that push up pushrods, that push up on a rocker arm, which pivots and pushes down on the valve stem to open it.

 

"other" engines = ones with overhead cams. some have one that controls all the valves(one for an inline or one per bank for a V) and some have 2 that each control intake and exhaust. they don't have pushrods as the cam acts directly on top of the valve(in most cases).
