hard coolant line attached to side of LIM on 3.1

Would it be a bad idea to cut out and replace a portion of the hardline with a rubber hose? I twisted the hell out of the one on the TSTE and would much rather just cut out the mangled part and replace it rather than install a new one (wasn't it decided they're TGP specific anyway? I have no idea where the one from my old car went). Plus, it'd make it a LOT easier to remove the god damn LIM, and I wouldn't have to worry about crushing the crossover in the process anymore just trying to get a wrench around the god damned thing...

Only thing I'm particularly worried about is heat, because the downpipe isn't that far away. Should I fab up some kind of heat shield? Would it be a bad idea to put that turbo heat-blanket wrap on the DP?

I still have to do something about my EGR pipe too.. I think I'm just going to try to make an entirely new pipe for that though. Just have to make sure I actually weld it this time instead of JB weld.. (oh well. It didn't fit onto the valve anyway.)

hmm i really can't tell whree it goes (excuse my ignorance of the 3.1, its been awhile since i worked on one) but for me, being anal retentive, i'd probably repair it the correct way. but as for a rubber hose, just be damn sure it dosen't melt on the exhaust or anything like that.

It goes to the heater core, IIRC. The part I'd be replacing is near the top, the first bend little and the downward bend after that, a bit further away from the DB.

I think this is where i am getting my coolant leak from after doing the heads, not 100 percent sure though. The only reason its metal is cause its so close to the crossover/downpipe. You would def need a shield, and clamps/brakets to hold it at the same mounting points on the head and the tranny so it doesnt make contact. I think more trouble than its worth. just get one from a JY.

If that gets a hole burnt into it, coolant everywhere!! Turn it off ASAP and tow it!

i had to do this because i had no TGP heater core pipe. i used about 12" of heater hose, but i sourced it from the TB heater supply pipe, NOT the heater core supply pipe (which is now blocked off). it works great this way! the hose is not close to the crossover or downpipe so no heat shield necesary. i will get a pic for you. details of it can be read here:

i do plan on replacing it with an actual TGP heater core pipe if i can actually find one someday :?
