Friend has new W, need some advice/tips

Short form of the story:

I was talking to my friend Chaz yesterday, and he mentioned that he finally got a new car. The old 80-something blazer that he had, which was literally held together by tin foil and duct tape in some spots, had finally hit the end of the road. So, he traded it in for an 02 Grand Prix SE sedan. (He wanted the GT model that was also on the lot, but that would have pushed him over his already tight budget)

Here's the specs:

-Silver exterior/grey cloth interior

-3100 w/floor shifted auto

-AM/FM/tape radio (soon to be replaced with aftermarket setup)

-62K miles (previous owner babied it, very wel maintained)

Anyway, I know Chaz will likely be doing most (if not all) of the maintenance on this car himself, so I'd like to tap y'alls' brains for some maintenance tips/advice that he can use. I'm already going to suggest the usual spark plug/wires, fuel filter, etc., but I'm sure there is more out there. Also, with 62K on the engine, is there anythinghe should be on the look out for??

I'll post a pic as soon as he sends it to me. :)

Thanx!

#1 LOWER INTAKE GASKET

- Check it, it may already be leaking sone, replace the gasket and LIM bolts with the new P/Ns from the dealer and have them give you the new torque spec for the LIM bolts. After that theres not really issues to look at but some general maintnece.

-Check/Replace Air Filter

-Replace Fuel Filter

-Check/Replace PCV

-Check all lines and hoses

-Check belt

-Check wiring for any melted or frayed spots particularly the 3x crank sensor wire which can sometimes end up laying on the exh manifolds.

-Check Fluids

-Check belt tensioner

-Check O2 Sensor

-If ODBII have it scanned and check for any codes that may not be fully reset, if the scanner is capable watch the live data to look for any anonmolies (O2s consistently over 900-1000, IATs Reading to high or too low, MAP reading off, etc)

-Do a GM top engine clean and trade up to full synthetic oil (after you have done your gaskets, once you go to syn the 3100 can have its oil changed every 10k with a filter change at 5k provided your not in a super dusty enviroment)

-Check trans fluid, look for metal shavings and indications of clutch break down. NEVER USE SYNTHETIC TRANS FLUID

-Check/Clean EGR, replace gaskets

That should be about it. Taken good care of the 3100 will last 200k or more miles.

i dont know about other people but i always replace each gasket when doing something that requires me to break the seal. The only 2 you can sometimes get away with is throttle body and EGR.
