odee Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Just found this site good info here. I have just gotten a 92 grand prix with a blown 3.1, have gotten another 3.1 in the car and somewhat running. Went thru the new starter, waterpump, alternator thing. Fresh tuneup on the engine. Now the problem I have is a check gauge lite in the dash, believe I may have this issue figured out from info posted here. Other issue is my oil pressure gauge goes pegged when the engine fires. Have replaced the sender with new one. Any way to check the gauge itself? Replace whole dash or just the gauge or try another sender? thanks Quote
Crazy K Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 please read this thread: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36120 for the oil guage your sensor must be the long sensor, not the short sensor. If it worked before the engine failure, it should work now, the only exception would be if your new engine has oil that is way too thick, and really indicates high pressure. let us know if you still have issues. - Ken Quote
Spoon Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I had a problem just like this. I think it was because of the thread sealant on the sender. It was so thick that it wasn't grounding right in the block. I tested this by jumping a wire from the neg. side of the batt. to the casing on the sender. The gauge read half way/normal after I did that. Quote
Crazy K Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Interesting, I've never had that problem, And I've changed five. I use liquid teflon thread sealant.... Use liquid teflon thread sealant!!!!! Quote
odee Posted December 3, 2005 Author Report Posted December 3, 2005 I don't know much about how the car was working before I got it. The engine had overheated as I was told by the seller. Had a local shop pull the topend off to check it out. Had cracked heads and blown head gaskets. When I got it all those parts were in the trunk. I think I swapped the sender from the old engine to the new on. It may be bad on both engines. thanks. Quote
