Firewall cover

When I was poking around doing my harness I found a metal cover that goes between the engine and the firewall. I had to remove it to get to the c100 connector.

I've never seen any other W body with one, and the guy that was helping me said his 89 Regal never had it either.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about and what is it for?

pics? I don't remember seeing anything like that when I tore the TGP apart.. just that insulating pad.

I can get something tommorow, but instead of an insulating pad, its a metal panel.

I made a thread bitching about that car a few months back, and GnatGoSplat said the false firewall was an '88 only deal

there were alota strange things that only 88's got, like the raer brake lines for example, different then any other year w-body.

Hmm, my first '89 CS had it, haven't really looked close enough at any of my other cars to see if they do or not.

Both of my '89 TGPs had the false metal firewall. I think it makes for a cleaner appearance but it sure wastes a lot of space.

My 88 GP had a metal plate around the master cylinder area (took it off to run amp wire through the hole). I doubt it really has much purpose

Well, no, not 88 only because my 89 has it.

I thought it was 88-89 only since my 90 TGP doesn't have it, and neither did my step bro's 90 CS sedan.
