3.4 DOHC to a 3800 series 2 Supercharged how hard?

How hard do you guys think it would be to drop a 3800 series 2 Supercharged into my 1992 Z34 Lumina? For the looks of it I would almost drop right in. But I dont know about the Engine mounts. And how hard would it be to wire it all up. Like the Suppercharger? If its going to be way more work that whats its worth Ill just skip it. So what do you guys think would it be work and be worth it? Oh yeah and would my tanny work off my 3.4 DOHC? Thanks

to answer your speculation, yes it will drop right in and uses the same mounts ('cept for the dogbones but thats easy). thats the easy part, the hard part is wiring and custom halfshafts

Brianteel will make you the custom harness and driveshafts for a nominal fee, so you don't have to get your hands dirty if you don't want to  ...

And I perfer the 3.4, but If you want an L67, go ahead

Going from 3.1 or 3100 to L67 swap... I totally dig it (and I want to do it.. well actually 3.8 turbo but I'll start off with L67). I'd like to see more turbocharged 3.4s!

You have to look closely, but there's definitely peeling paint on the C-pillar.

I'm not sure what you are willing to spend on an engine..... I'm in the same boat.... I had the choice of replacing a STOCK 3.4 or swapping a 3.8 S/C into the engine bay........

I will tell you this.... Based on the quotes from GM, and a couple of private engine remanufacturers, the advice to me was get rid of that POS 3.4.....

SO, I pulled it and threw that hunk of shit in the scrap bin..... Tossed the whole engine.....

I'm not sure what prices and availability are there, but a 3.4 DOHC is an engine worthy of the shit bin, simply because of the expense.... From engine to engine I have calculated that the overall cost for me to rebuild a 3.4 vs. a 3.8 are way more than marginal. The cost to overhaul a 3.8 is phenomenally less than a 3.4 and if you have any mechanicl ability whatsoever I would recommend the swap.

In my case it ends up being not only cheaper, but will render me more horsepower and torque in the end.... As the majority of fab and placement work will be done by myself........

IMHO a swap between a 3.4 and push rod 3.8 is a no brainer....... 3.8..... Tried tested and true..... 3.4.......... wannabe boat anchor.... Made power as long as it ran, notta damn thing long after that. You ask anyone who has rebuild both a 3.4 DOHC, and a P/R 3.8 and see what they would rather have after the work they've done and the results they've achieved. I guarentee you'll get the right answer!!

3.8 swap is not hard........ It's time consuming.... but if your doing the work, it's the cheapest!!

your looking at $1500 - $2500 in parts to do it yourself and a week and a week and a half of work. Its not hard, just time consuiming and youll need to make sure you have every detail covered. L67swap.com is great for the nitty gritty details.

i would build a 3.4 if my engine blew most likely now that ive had one. before i had one i absolutely hated them but now ive grown to like it because its different and you have to get creative. i do want to swap in an L32 in a 5sp lumi though, just not my 96

if you can pull an engine its not hard if you get the harness adapter (unless youre really patient and good with wiring)

Personally, I would build up your 3.4.. I am definately a DOHC fan.. And the fun power that's there until something goes wrong? THe only thing that would make it not go anymore is the timing belt.. And that is regular maintainence like oil or spark plugs or filters.. THe 3.4 is a touchy engine, but it has too much potential to just pitch it in favor of the overplayed and worn out L67.. I too was intending on an L67 swap in my ABody.. I changed my tune when I saw that it was being put in everything.. What I am sayin is your Z34 wouln't be the first with an L67..

And to show my love for the 3.4, I am building one up.. Turbo, ALcohol injection, and a 5 speed.. I love the 3.4.. It is finicky like I said, but it is definately a fun motor.. 8)

why does every one say the L67 is played out. if anything they are all played out. If you want to swap motors i can help you with any one you decide with. The L67 is drop in. The harness is a pain but i can help with that too.
