sniperi311 Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 when my cars in drive my volt meter reads fine, or when im stopped, but when i start to accelerate my volts jump up really high, like arond 15 almost, my check gages light keeps coming on, but only when the voltage is really high. i checked all my grounds they all seem fine and tight, cars not acting funny or anything, anybody have any idea whats going on, oh my battery and alternator are only like a year old, im pretty sure there not going bad, thanx Quote
pwmin Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 could be the internal voltage regulator in the alternator Quote
Garrett Powered Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 your voltage is fine at 14.7. Thats perfect Quote
sniperi311 Posted November 30, 2005 Author Report Posted November 30, 2005 how would i check to see if the regulator is going out or not, Quote
pwmin Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 elminate the possiblity of something wrong with the qauge, etc. by having it tested with a voltage tester during idle and at rpm. 14.8 is the highest it should charge. anything over that can have harmful effects. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 When you say around 15, what do you mean, 14.7, 14.8, 15.0+? Can you get a solid reading of what volts our putting out? Quote
ShockTherapy Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 half the time the voltage gauge in my regal would peg itself at 18. Â i just ignored it. Quote
sonyman87 Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 normaly i see 13.9-14.1 at idle or driving. when its really cold out or when im putting a load on it. it will bump up to 14.2-14.8volts.. no big deal. i have seen as high as 15votls but after that the meter just reads "HI" and flashes at me. it dosnt do that very often though. voltage meter is a radioshack extrenal temp and volt meter. Quote
sniperi311 Posted December 1, 2005 Author Report Posted December 1, 2005 the volts are either 14.9 or 15.1 thats what my cap reads, has a voltmeter on it Quote
pwmin Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 def too high then. prob the V reg. (alt) Quote
Spoon Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I agee its probably the voltage reg. There is no way to test this one, you'll need a new alt. or I think if you get a rebuild kit it comes with one. Quote
rudefyet Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 take the alt off and have autozone test it, they have a machine that tests the voltage it's putting out Quote
