ratcheting strap/tie down/come-a-long: changing rear plugs

so putting it in reverse will rock it THAT much to get your hand(s) back there?

Yep. As you give it more throttle the farther it will push forward ;)

When idling it will move forward quite a bit, but you will probably need to give it a little bit of throttle for it to move forward enough to put the bolt through. ;)

And TGPilot hit the nail on the head as to why you need it in reverse, not drive. In drive the engine goes backwards which doesn't help any

You guys always manage to make way too much out of a simple plug change... pretty sure no other board has a 2-3 page topic once a month on what the easiest way to do the change is and argue over how they refuse to do it a certain way.

If it's really that big of a fucking deal bring it to your corner Jiffy Lube and be done with it  but god.. it's not like we're driving fucking minivans with plugs halfway under the dashboard.

And ratcheting straps? come on guys, that's called overcomplicating. Put some fucking muscle into it.

Changed the plugs on my 95 Monte Z34 last night....took a 2" extension, plugged it into a 6" extension, attached a 5/8 spark plug socket. Removed weather strip from firewall, removed plug wires from holes. Inserted extensions and sockets with no interference at all, attached a 3/8 drive power bar and removed spark plugs.

Didn't need to tilt engine, remove plenum, trim sheet metal, pray to DOHC gods, phone my mother....nada...took 10 minutes, 15 tops. Also found that two of the rear plug wires had lost their connectors onto the tops of hte plugs. and the boots were cracked. Had to buckshe a fix til i can replace teh wires....

Understood. When i was looking i couldn't findit written anywhere that no special procedure was needed for this car. I found a how to on 91-95's or something like that that suggested pulling engine forward with strap. Could have been same engine, different body.

Just wanted to document that a special procedure is not needed on this particular car/engine combo.

It was very clear that the 96 plenum is bigger. Even the Haynes and Chilton manuals tell you to take it off on these cars.

Thanks for all the tips here, they are great.

so you give it more throttle...even though the car's off??

for a second there i thought the motor was on and you were saying..give it more throttle!!!! :bash:

No, give it throttle with the car on. THE BRAKES LOCKED so you don't run your ass over. So your e-brake must be 100%, or have someone sit in the car pressing the brake.

It was simple for me to do this, but even with the engine tilted all the way, I still fucked my wrist up for a week. God damn FWD can suck my ass.
