Crazy K Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 This is the rim for a 2000-2005 Impala or Monte Carlo. It has the same 5x115 lug pattern as the gen 1 wheels and a similiar offset... Does anyone know if these will fit on a 1992 lumina? example: http://i11.ebayimg.com/02/a/05/79/64/1b_1.JPG http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-Impala-Chevrolet-LS-Low-Reserve_W0QQitemZ4591591317QQcategoryZ6169QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This is a similiar rim, but I'm not interested in these. http://i19.ebayimg.com/03/i/05/7f/5f/f4_12.JPG?set_id=1005 The impala type seems to have the entire wheel center being more recessed and the rim lip protrudes out by comparison. which is to ask... will they clear the calipers and not rub the struts... thanks -ken. P.S. I run Olds 98 rims on my CS, I filed the caliper bracket for the 11 rotors slightly to fit. and thats fine by me 90sEraWhips 1 Quote
bluegp Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 IIRC, 1st gen wheels have around +35mm offset while 2nd gen wheels have around +52mm. So, a 2nd gen wheel on a 1st gen will sit farther inboard. I can't say for sure if it would hit anything, but I think I remember one or two people here that have used spacers to mount up 2nd gen wheels (z34_nut is one) Here's an old post (with z34_nut's picture): http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23172 90sEraWhips 1 Quote
Pabz Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 got 97 regal rims to fit my 89, less than 1 more millimeter and they would touch. most people say it cant be done without spacers. Other alt is to go with the 96+ style knuckles ans struts i think. 90sEraWhips 1 Quote
mihela816 Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 95.5-96 style use the same wheel offset as 88-95. 90sEraWhips 1 Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 go with the 1.5 gen Z34 rim that you posted about...closer fit than the newer 2nd gen 16" rims 90sEraWhips 1 Quote
Crazy K Posted November 24, 2005 Author Report Posted November 24, 2005 Eurosport94 has them on his vehicle, (as linked) but I am much more interested in the look of the impala version as the center hub appears more recessed and i feel they look more agressive. Additionally I intend to run Yokohoma 225/60r16 giving both a soft ride and plenty of footprint. I think the 95-2000 lumina / m carlo rim is a 16x6.5 and I think 2000-2005 impala / m carlo is a 16x7 can i get a verification from anyone on either of these? I feel the wider rim would reduce sidewall flex with my wider tire selection, as the factory sawblades on my 95 CS felt sloppy and the 16x7 Olds 98 rims I swapped them for are stable as hell. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y170/Eurosport94/Fall%20Pics%2005/Picture087.jpg I'm going to ask Z34 nut what issues he may have had. thanks for the info btw - ken Quote
Euro Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 and they honestly dont stick out that much Quote
pwmin Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 with spacers and longer lugs? yes. without: no. my 96 gp wheels (5spokes and xlaces) are 25mm offset Quote
z34_nut Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 I had to machine my spacers. I built them from scratch. I made each spacer 1/4 inch thick, and then I had to grind the front caliper bracket. If I still had the car, I would snap some photo's for you. The rear caliper does not need to be touched. I also didn't use lug extensions on my car. I kinda feel that I should have, but it didn't give me any problems. Just use some sort of lock tight. The don't sit on much of the lug, and you wouldn't want them to back off. EDIT: The Impala wheels are still 6.5 inches wide. Quote
Crazy K Posted November 25, 2005 Author Report Posted November 25, 2005 Thanks! thats what i needed to know!!! On a side note, I have noticed a clearance difference with wheels on my cars based on the type of rotor (composite=thin hub, solid= thick hub rotor) In my junior days i once bought new composite rotors and the $%^# warped fast and could not be turned. so I now put on thick hubs rotors only! and the wheel rides outboard maybe 1/4 inch more. Someday I'll get the rims i want - Ken hey, the hub of an old solid rotor if ground flat might make a suitable spacer! good idea or bad? Quote
z34_nut Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 You could definatly use and old rotor hat. Just cut, and grind, make sure there is no raised meterial. Different rotors DO have differnt spaces. For example, When I first put my wheels on, I didn't need spacers in the back, when I replaced the rotors, I needed spacers... Quote
