cutlass1991 Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 For the third time in 1 month now, I have been driving and the power steering has just stopped working. This time it was almost for a full 30 seconds. Each time it happened I was driving up a hill. The only thing I have noticed that seems out of the ordinary is that the pump shaft in the center of the pulley is extremely hot after driving. Does anyone know, or maybe someone can check to see if theirs gets hot too? Just put your finger on the center of the pulley (NOT while it's running!!!) . Also I guess I should mention, lately I have noticed a burning smell coming from under the hood, kind of like the smell after riding the brakes really hard. Quote

cutlass1991 Posted November 22, 2005 Author Report Posted November 22, 2005 Does the power steering pump whine at all? It doesn't whine at all, even when the power steering went out for a few seconds, it gave no other indication that something was wrong. Quote
Brian P Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 assuming you're using your stock pulley and it's plastic, could the pulley be slipping on the shaft? Quote
mihela816 Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 Maybe a fluid line is plugged or there is an internal problem with the rack. Quote
