ok so i went to work yesterday took the highway car ran awesome, 4 hours later on my lunch i start up my car so i can stay warm, and damn theres one LOUD ass ticking come from my engine,ok shut it off check oil, oils good, revved up fine all that good stuff so i figured hm must just be cold. well later on when i went to go home start up the car now the ticking is way worse then before get on the highway lets just say i hada 3 cyclinder couldnt even get over 40. so after almost dieing on the highway and getting home i brought it to a shop today and they tell me i broke both pushrods on cyclinder 2, what the hell would cuz 2 pushrods to broke on the same cyclinder at the sametime, just curious if i should get them all replaced or just those 2, they quoted me 189 to get those two replaced including guides

that is an incredibly low price for some pretty major engine work like replacing pushrods!!!! It's more than a fair price and I think you'd be insane not to go for that if its a reputable shop.

yea its one of the biggest towing/auto work shops in the city so i didnt think that was a bad price myself, but im just curious what causes pushrods to snap like that?

yea definately have them checkout your valvetrain, especially the part on the #2 cyl.

It could be from it getting hot/constant high RPMs. Or it could be from bad rockers, or something.

I say fuck it, and just get new, lightweight Pushrods, a cam, new lifters, springs, retainers, etc etc. :D

If they aren't taking the intake off, replacing the pushrods is fairly simple...but IIRC they probably have to take the intake off on a 3.1 MPFI to get the rear valve cover off and be able to access the rocker arms.

Of course, this is work i would do myself...so i probably shouldn't be saying anything

Look dood, here's my prediction. $189 later, rods replaced w/ guides. no ticking for a while. Couple days, Ticking. AWWW shit

Then $650 to replace broken lifters and replace "new" rods and "new" guide.

for $189 i doubt they are taking off the LIM, just taking off valve cover.

Its a risk dood, but you might be good just replacing the rods, but rods dont break for no reason. Make them check the valve springs and rocker arms. Get a compression test after this is done too.
