gp90se Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 there's a slight grinding noise when I turn the defrost on, but not on the vent. blower motor going? Quote
patgizz Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 grinding where? the defrost uses the a/c compressor to dry the air, maybe compressor clutch going? Quote
DiscoStudd Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 That's the classic sign of the brushes going bad in the blower motor. Time for a new one, I'm afraid... Quote
gp90se Posted November 16, 2005 Author Report Posted November 16, 2005 my buick is my, *drops head* summer car, soon as we get snow I will be putting my blazer back on the road. if it were the brushes, I think the vents would make the noise as well. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 Not necessarily. The Defrost mode might cause more of a restriction, causing the motor to work harder, thus it's noisier. I've had this happen to me on damn-near every GM I've ever owned and it's always been the blower motor. The "noise-going-away-when-selecting-a-different-mode" was a symptom of a few of them. Other times it was a loud squeal when turning the motor off. In other words, the symptoms are not always the same on a failing blower motor (even for the same car.) I think they design the blower motors to crap out on you every 2 or 3 years so they can hose you for the $40 replacement cost on a consistent basis ... Quote
