Pabz Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Changed the exhaust gaskets and its running puurrrrrty. That valve job must have been good, i can spin the tires, I could never do this before. Quote

BTW , the 2.8 in my Cutlass won't spin em, and I KNOW it's cause of my valves... 170K miles, yet it still runs strong... I gotta get back to my 3.1 project.... Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 My old 2.8 Cutlass could still spin 'em...even with 200k on the clock...I had lighter wheels (crosslaces), skinnier tires (215/65r15), and they were also the hardest tires on earth Quote

THe_DeTAiL3R Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 My 88 GP would "chirp" the tires, maybe spin them around a corner.. on dry pavement that is. The 89 GP 5-speed I test drove roasted the tires better than my 3100 auto... Quote

Face Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 My 88 Regal 2.8 had no problem lighting up the tires. Acceleration after 30mph was the only problem that car had, lol. Quote

Hey, that sounds like MY regal! I can squeel them (not just a chirp, but a prolonged squeel) on dry cracked pavement. Then again it could have somthing to do with the $50 tires (205/70/R14's) on my POS rims........ Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 someone needs to turbocharge that 2.8 MPFI engine with a 5-speed. only person that has done it that i know of is TurboGTU....but with an automatic. i would think a 2.8 MPFI with a TGP setup would be even better than a turbo 3.1 MPFI. the pistons are likely stronger, less dwell time at TDC (less prone to detonation), and the crank should be stronger since the rod journals aren't as far out. it also probably revs a little higher/easier, and traction might be even better due to less stroke. even better would be a 2.8 crank in a 3400 block. 1990lumina Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 C'mon Josh...you know you want another turbo project Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 C'mon Josh...you know you want another turbo project as long as it involves a Quad-4 in a light N-body, yes Quote
White93z34 Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 what displacement would a 2.8 crank in a 3.4 block come out to be 3.3 3.2? Quote

Gutted you cat!!??? somebody should report that to PITA! You and that Shawn fella feedn kittens antifreeze.... Thats cool about your block and the crosshatches.... It's nice when American made v6 lasts for 15 years, and there is little wear. I'm sure your be enjoying that valvejob for years to come... Quote
slick Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 even better would be a 2.8 crank in a 3400 block. I have always wanted to do that: 2.8 crank 3400 block and heads 3500 Intake getrag 282 or even the new 6 speed and ofcourse a nice size turbo to go along with it. I bet that set up right there, along with all the modifications that it would require to get it working right, would scream. Quote

Brian P Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 you'd need some completely custom pistons for that setup. Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 Someone should build a motor like this: The traditional cast iron block was first tossed in favor of GM's high performance V6/60-degree aluminum bow tie block. With the block punched out to 3.4 liters, a compression ratio of 10.7:1 and filled with GM and aftermarket goodies, like a Crower solid lifter camshaft with .459-inch max intake lift and .484-inch exhaust lift, Iskenderian solid lifters, custom-made Smith Brothers pushrods, Crane aluminum roller rocker arms, special studs from Ryan Falconer Racing Engines, the engine produced 225 horsepower. That would be sweet! I bet that intake flows even better than the 3500's. Quote

TeeJay3800 Posted November 17, 2005 Report Posted November 17, 2005 That intake is a Corvette V8 intake... just shorter for the V6 Very cool, but what engine is that from? The only Vette motor I can think of from 1990 was the TPI style. That's definitely not a TPI intake. Quote
