aet2198 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Does anyone know where I can purchase a 12 pin ALDL male connector so I can build my own cable to connect to my laptop to collect data from my car's computer. Demetrius Quote
Turbo231 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Check out OBDI software sites...very often they have links to people who make the cables. Quote
fastbird232 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Shit...I had a whole thread about this awhile ago...search for "ALDL cable" and "Fastbird232," you'll find it. Quote
Pabz Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 When your done, tell me how to make one!!! Quote
fastbird232 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I think Shawn told me he knows how to make them, actually. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I just bought the $10 circuit board from http://www.akmcables.com/ic.htm. Then I bought the MAX232 chip to put on it, and all the other parts I already had (pulled 'em off the scrap circuit boards I save out of junked electronics). The molded cable part, I bought from O'Reilly Auto Parts. My friend used to work there, and ordered me a molded cable made by OTC. I think I paid $20 for it. Kind of pricey, but it beats sticking individual wires into the connector. Quote
Pabz Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Gnat, what about the software, can you take a screenshot? What diag info can you pull from this too? Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I use EFILiveV4. Sure, I can take a screenshot when I get home. You can pull all kinds of info... sensor readings, injector pulse width, etc. I even got it to pull ABS codes and such. Quote
99RegalGS Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Shawn, is there an advantage to the Max232 chip adapter over the 2 transistor method adapter? I'm looking to buy a cable and the company I found used 2 transistors not the max232 chip. Thanks. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Nah, if the 2 transistor method works, it should be good enough. I went the MAX232 method because I built my interface something like 5+ yrs ago, before someone came out with the 2-transistor design. Quote
