Cam'ron Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 i have silverstars now in my monte but i should revieve my HID bulbs before to long but i am not sure how they are going to look with the stock headlights... i might end up keeping the silverstars cause they are incredible Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 They better be much better than OEM because I need to do this very soon. Quote
Euro Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 i ahve the Sylvania cool blues and im very happy with em...people always mistake em for silverstars plus they're like hella cheaper!!! Quote
Cam'ron Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 as of now i am all for silverstars, they are insane... but i am getting the HID for a song so i am willing to try them i wish i had a stock photo from before i got the silverstars Quote
sonyman87 Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 They better be much better than OEM because I need to do this very soon. i wish i had before and after pictures.. ohh wait i still have the old bulbs.. let me put it like this. Silverstar > Coolblue > OEM the difference in light between the bulbs is about the same. on the back of the packages of silverstart there is a light rating. just see for yourself. it includes oem, coolblue, hid, and all the inbetweens. just becareful not to tuch the bulb you pull out. they may be HOT extreamly HOT. if you just used them. supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I've got silverstars and I don't see them being worth the extra price. They LOOK a little cooler, but as far as seeing further down the road, yea right. Quote
Cam'ron Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 i couldnt believe the difference when i switched... the ywere so much better than stock i kinda had to go and get the highbeams as well... i had better light from the lows and you could barely tell i was flashing somebody my highs Quote
pitzel Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 Make sure you use gloves when changing them. Don't touch the bulbs with your bare hands. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 Its best to wipe them with alcohol anyway, just to be sure... I've seen to many of them burn out right from the package. Quote

They LOOK a little cooler, but as far as seeing further down the road, yea right. I would have to agree (although one of my lights is a cool blue) and I think I need to align them... but I do think the bottem line is MINI-QUADS SUCK ASS. I should get some real f'n bright fogs to compensate for GM's shitty low-beam design. Quote
MonteCarloChick Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 My stock headlights are bright as it is Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 My stock headlights are bright as it is I had no complaints about my 88 GP headlights, they worked fine too. But MINIQUADS ARE HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!!! Quote
gp90se Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 100 watt fog lights I wired on my blazer, I can turn midnight into noon with the flick of a switch. Quote
mfewtrail Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I've got silverstars and I don't see them being worth the extra price. They LOOK a little cooler, but as far as seeing further down the road, yea right. I switched to cool blues in my GTP and they definitely put out a clearer light/make it easier to see. The stock lights on my GTP were dim as shit(a lot of people with 97+ cars upgrade the wiring harness and lights for that reason). As far as mini-quads go, those of you complaining about them = make sure they're aimed properly. My mini's put out plenty of light in my SE. Quote
bartonmd Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/Products/ProductComparison/DownroadComparison.htm I see the pictures, but I don't know if I buy it... I put a Silverstar on my '85 Nighthawk 700S and it was a little bit more white/blue than factory, but I didn't really notice any real difference in how well I could see with it... This was right after Silverstars came out, so I know the guy before me didn't have one in it already... In fact, the bike only had 7k on it, so I'm pretty sure the bulb was stock. I am currently debading on which bulb to put in the high beam on my Blackbird, because I've got HID in the low beam, which ROCKS, but don't want to put it in the high beam (constant on/off) because power cycles of the HID KILL the stock wiring because of the startup/inrush current of the HID when you turn it on... I saw awhile back, somebody was putting the stock, 65W bulb from the high beam of some new "standard" high beam bulb into H7 (the socket my bike takes) sockets, so they might be doing the same thing to the 9005/6... As I recall, the 9005/6 are 1000 lumens, HID is 3200 lumens, and these hybrid bulbs are 2200 lumens... I'll tray and find the link... Mike Quote
Burnout524 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I'm definatelly going to buy Silverstars...they're just cost so damn much. So hopefully, when one of my stock bulbs takes a crap or I get an AutoZone gift certificate for Christmas, I'm gonna buy them. I'd get the Silverstar turn signals too, but the way I keep blowing turnsignal/DRL bulbs its not worth the money. Quote
jeremy Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 <-----not impressed with Silverstars Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 <-----not impressed with Silverstars ditto. Its not just miniquads either.. I've had them in standard composite headlights.. sure wasn't worth the extra money. As far as miniquads, I've never had a problem with the amount of light they put out. Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 As far as miniquads, I've never had a problem with the amount of light they put out. The miniquads actually seem to be better than most cars with 2 headlight systems, stock for stock. Miniquad High beams are pretty sweet (at least on a cutlass they are) If you think our headlight suck, try driving my duster at night...crappy chrysler alternators that dim at idle and a 2 headlight sealed beam setup with no relays...gotta fix that sometime soon! Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 yeah the lights I have no, are OK at night, I mean I can see a good distance, but there just not very bright, and I have to focus more than I should just to see the road sometimes. If some of you guys arnt inpressed with the Silverstars, what other options for bulbs do we have? (besides the APC lights that blind the fuck out of people, I think those are the ones) Quote

There is only so much than can be done to light up the night without running other drivers off the road. Quote
Justin Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 The thing is, nobody makes better reflectors for our headlights. I read all the time about people putting different housings in their jeeps that have really great patterns that allow you to run high wattage bulbs without blinding people. On a related note, I put a new headlight in an older escort this week and then aligned the headlights. With the yellowed lens and older bulb in one side and the new one with new bulb in the other side the new side had almost exactly twice as many lumens. So if you've got those cheap plastic lenses make sure to polish them up, it can make a hell of a difference. Quote
