Euro Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I scanned and im pulling a code 24....according to the FAQ it mean this 24: Engine speed was between 2200 and 4400 RPM and transmission was not in park or neutral and TPS was less than 2% for 3 seconds. and ah....wtf does THAT mean? and my gm code book says that its the VSS....speed sensor was left open or short circuited??? Help...lol i honestly dont know what this means Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 24 VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) CIRCUIT FAILED VSS sounds like its taking a poo. Trouble Code 24 indicates that the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is reporting an abnormally low reading when other sensors indicate it should be higher. The conditions for setting this code are: no Code 33 or 34 (MAF Error) is present, and the vehicle speed signal indicates < 4 MPH and engine speed is between 1400 and 4400 RPM, and during a low load condition (LV8 between 50 and 99), and transmission not in Park or Neutral, and all conditions met for more than 20 seconds If the code was logged when the vehicle was in motion, the following should be checked: 1) Defective or corroded VSS connections 2) Maladjusted TPS sensor. The TPS should read about 0.42 volts at closed throttle 3) Defective speedometer cable 4) Bad or missing speedo drive gear(s) in tail shaft housing of the transmission 5) Defective VSS 6) Defective ECM Quote
Euro Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 crap.....ive never had this replaced on any of our cars? is it a DIY job?? and how much? Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 Yeah its a DIY job. IIRC, I get the part for like 40 bucks. I think they retail for around 60. Should be on the transmission near the passenger side axle. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 If this image shows up, its all I've got. Quote
Darksyde Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 Above and to the left of my red arrow is the Hold down strap for the VSS. Right near my split... Quote

Euro Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 damn the VSS might be the cause of more of my problems.....it says rough shifts...sometimes me.....rough idle...ME....poor gas mileage...ME hmmm Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 ...taking notes... it sounds like i might have the same problem here Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 Its semi-common and the cause of many problems. Quote
Euro Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 so just as long as its not horridly expensive to replace..and not a big problem im ok with it i'll probably have someone do it...i dont trust myself working with tings around the trans Quote
supreme_style21 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 so just as long as its not horridly expensive to replace..and not a big problem im ok with it i'll probably have someone do it...i dont trust myself working with tings around the trans Just do it. Its how you learn. Don't be afraid to touch this stuff. Post whatever concerns you have here and you'll find help. And you'll learn how to do it yourself. If you happen to break something... well thats part of the learning process. You'll probably spend less to fix mistakes and the original problem than you would if you took it to a shop and paid them to fix the original problem. Labor these days runs $70/hr + at most places... and it runs off the specified time, usually per Mitchell Labor guide... even if it takes them 10 minutes to fix and Mitchell says 2 hours, well guess what... you get charged for two hours of time. So its worth it to you to get some additional knowledge under your belt. Quote
GP1138 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 It's insane, with labor rates as they are, to pay someone to fix something it'd take you ten minutes to a half hour to do. Quote
Euro Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 thats true...i'll definitly look at it tomorrow...when i have light to work with lol Quote
