painting steering column cover

Recommended Posts

so today, i tried painting my scratched up steering column cover, and it didn't go so well. Is there anyway to take the cover (the metal box) off? What should i do?

I have no idea if you can take the cover off easily, might need special tools I dunno.. but probably one of the easier (and more time consuming) things to do would be to take the entire steering column out.

Well different column, but I painted the column in my 95 Regal (boneyard column that was the wrong color.) I roughed up the surface with 180 grit and shot it with PlastiKote touch-up paint. It's held up nicely for 2 years.

Oh yeah, the column was out of the car when I painted it...

I wanted to do this and couldnt get that damn cover off.. I had everything apart, wheel off, but I couldn't find an easy way to remove it. I ended up just wrapping it with matching vinyl....which was supposed to be temporary but has been there for almost a year because im lazy. I hope someone knows how to take that thing off.
