5speedz34
Well, I'm looking at picking up a one owner '90 Base Lumina for under $100 that might need trans work but I don't know. I posted about it in the General section here: http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35734 The car is a '90 Lumina 3.1/4T60 4-speed. The car has 173k, and the trans fluid smells new and looks new. Trans was rebuilt not to long ago. What the car does is when it is first started, it only moves under it's own power. It acts like it is in neutral, whether or not the shifter is placed in another gear. I stopped the car thinking I was going to be stuck, and put it into reverse and the car engaged the trans then. After that it was smooth sailing. I guess it only does it when the car is first started and after that it is fine. Thanks Guys!
THe_DeTAiL3R
Could it be a vaccuum leak that plugs itself when it's warm??
5speedz34
Could it be a vaccuum leak that plugs itself when it's warm?? It's literally within 20 feet of driving down the street, so the motor was still cold. EDIT: I'm going to work soon, this might sound like an asshole thing to say. But I want some educated responses when I come back!

DaveFromColorado
pressure releif sticking on the pump, and when you put it into reverse it senses the requirement for increased line pressure and after X ammount of time it overcomes the blockage and works fine. the trans shop/rebuilder probably used a defective part. --Dave. Canada
Dave is correct.....I had to think about that one a second......
5speedz34
Damn, thats what Don(maybe2fast) said too. But it doesn't have to go into reverse for it to engage....I think How hard is it to replace? If I can get to it before dropping the trans that be sweet otherwise fuck it. DaveFromColorado
you may be able to get at it from the side cover, but I don't have my 4t60 book here at the house, so I'm useless for that answer. I'll look it up and find out for ya tho. --Dave.
