Supreme Cutlass
Where is the oil pressure [switch] located? *Updated*
mfewtrail
Right beside the oil filter.

Supreme Cutlass
ok, this thing looks like it's not going to be easy to get out, what's the best way to do it? Vice Grips? or SHOULD an open end wrench work?
mfewtrail
They "require the use of a special socket." A lot of people remove the oil filter and then remove the sender with a pair of channel lock pliers, vice grips, or whatever they can fit right there. Canada
Just be sure to grab on the metal part......why are you removing it?
Supreme Cutlass
I'm going to replace it with a sender (made a typo on the first post, it's presently a switch)
Canada
Upgraded your cluster, eh? Nice......I remember doing that when I swapped clusters in my Beretta.
cutlassdude96
a 1 1/16th socket would fit it
Supreme Cutlass
[update] I'm putting the new one in, and it pretty much stopped turning when it wasn't all the way in, there's about 1/8" left, should I just leave it?? Supreme Cutlass
I got it... nvm..
3pt1lumina
okay i just did this, and I have no luck it didnt work... why not? is it not tight enough or something. the guage doesnt work at all?
Crazy K
3pt1lumina, umm, I've heard of the senders not making good ground contact. btu I question this. but... is the harness adapter specific to a model year? (what year and engine does the person who made it for you own?) Some deluxe clusters, 92+ had an voltmeter instead of a oil gauge and are wired slightly differently..... come back and let me know and then we can trouble shoot more... for those who missed, Supreme Cutlass, was I belive installing a used motor, not changing guages (was there an idiot guage set in 93? I know in 94 there was not). Supreme Cutlass, is your guage working now?
3pt1lumina
I have no idea how it is wired.... it could be for the volts or oil. I also only put it in handtight just enough where it wasn't leaking.... that could be my problem right there. I gotta go to class, I'll shoot you a PM later crazyk, we'll figure this out. I have your pics ready too.

GutlessSupreme
Pretty sure '92 was the last year to get actual working oil pressure/voltage etc. I think after that the gauges were still there but they didn't do much of anything. 94CutlassSLCoupe
gauges are still there, Voltage works as normal (obviosly you can't have a dummy volt gauge if it actually moves), and the oil pressure is a dummy gauge. I plan on putting in a sending unit so we'll see if it works properly.

Nope the guages of 93 and 94 CS's do work. .... I also only put it in handtight just enough where it wasn't leaking.... Dude! LOL! Pop the oil filter off and tighten with a vice grip!!! (unless you have the proper socket) is the harness adapter specific to a model year? (what year and engine does the person who made it for you own?) Nope the guages of 93 and 94 CS's do work. the pressure gauge on '93 and '94's reads the same value throughout the entire rpm range, therefore it is a dummy guage, like an idiot light. I'm gonna have to double check it..... I'll re-post when I test my bro's car... I just thumbed through the service manual, and it says it's a switch on the 94. I'm wrong! BUT there may be hope. I did read how someone converted a dummy guage on a 95-96 impala to work...... (time to research) can we do the same?

Crazy K
Supreme Cutlass, sorry about that... are there any instuctions or tutorials you may know of?
Supreme Cutlass
It's really straight-foward, here's a short writeup. This should probably done with an oil change, so gather these materials: New Oil Filter Oil New Sender Oil sending unit socket (a normal deep socket is too shallow) 3/8 with half inch adapter or 1/2 socket wrench Then Drain your oil Unscrew and drain the old filter, this will give you room to work. Take out the old switch, compared to your new SENDER your SWITCH should be stumpy looking, like this Put in the new sending unit, the socket helps alot here because vice grips won't really work properly in the space you have next to the starter. Tighten it decently tight, not to where you have to grit teeth. Change filter and oil Plug in sender Test.
93CutlassSupreme
put that into the FAQ is sealant required on the threads? also, what store did you get the sender, the socket, and how much did it cost? also, is just sender replacement needed? or are other mods required
