I've never used my second gear start. My order sheet thingy lists the 2nd gear start under option group R6C which was a $3,000 upgrade. it gained the 3.4, leather trim, buckets, full gauges, and about 10 or so more goodies.

FWIW, my roommate has a 1994 GP SE sedan that's a total base model, but yet still has 2nd gear start.

no iv seen like 3 Special edition Green ones with gold wheels and gold badging with like tan interiors

So if you could sum up this thread in one sentence it would be: Grand Prix came in a SHITLOAD of options combinations.

It can be had any way you wanted it, basically. If you wanted it loaded with a 3.1 or base with a 3.4 or any combination in between, it could be made.

See, now, I thought that kind of mix-and-match stuff died out in the '70s. Is that still going on nowadays?

No, everything seems to be a little more organized, but options are still options.

Just for kicks I went to a dealership once and pretended that I was interested in a base 5-speed Cobalt. I was surprised how many options could be added/deleted! By the time I was done the sticker price had changed dramatically.

Ok, just got back from the dealer. I asked for the RPO list, but instead they printed out the damn build sheet! Six pages of all the codes and detailed (even more so than the front page of w-body.com) descriptions of the options. They even list the first year and last year the option is/was/will be available (some of these go up to 2009). I'd type them out here, but six pages is a hell of a lot. Here are a few that have been brought up in this thread:

B4S MERCHANDISED PKG 'GTP'

B4U SPORT PERFORMANCE PACKAGE (why does everyone say this is just gfx?)

E28 HANDLE,ASST,ASST HDL

FE3 SUSPENSION SYSTEM,SPORT

FW9 TRANSAXLE,FINAL DRIVE,3.43 RATIO

M13 TRANSMISSION,AUTOMATIC 4-SPEED(4T60-E)

NV7 STEERING,POWER,VARIABLE EFFORT

UH8 CLUSTER-COOL TEMP, TACH, TRIP ODOM

UV8 TELEPHONE, PROVISIONS FOR A MOBILE TELEPHONE (WTF? is that referring to the extra 12v outlet by the floor?)

WX2 APPOINTMENT GROUP,LEATHER

Oh, and this was brought up as well:

WY9 CONTROL SHIFT, 2ND GR START,SHIFT CTL

I was surprised to see the Y99 option wasn't on the list, though. Take THAT, Ross!

Damn glad I took the ten minutes to go get this printed out. It's like porn. :D

scan that shit

Posted

Believe me, if I had a scanner, it'd be up by now.

But hey, just head to your local dealer with your VIN and they'll print it out for free in two minutes. Just make sure you ask for the whole list, not just the RPO sheet itself.

So what's the difference between FE3 and Y99? I know the Y99 was a 34 mm rear sway bar, but how long was it available?

You should have ALOT more options listed than what the dealership printed out.

Oh, I do, but I only posted the relevant ones. I'm still searching for an on-campus scanner so I can post all six pages.

Just read on another thread that all B4Us got the 34s anyway, so maybe that's why there wasn't a Y99 on the list (it's included in the B4U package).

or look for an X, that will tell u if its a 3.4 dohc

HAHAHAHAHAHA That means that my GP IS INFACT A GT!!! They had to change motors out before I got the car... but yeah... haha that's awesome. I should find a 3.4 to drop into it to make you guys laugh. Nifty fact!

For the record I should not that there are no identifying tags on the car to mark what it is... they were all removed when it was painted before I bought it... they filled in all the holes and painted the entire car... so nowhere on the outside of the car does it say grand prix or SE or GT or anything like that...

Do the SEs as well as GTs have dual exhaust?

Posted

Wait a second...

Do you have a coupe or a sedan?

EDIT: N/M, I see you've got a coupe. In that case, no, you still have an SE. GTs were 3.4-equipped sedans. You could get a '92 SE with the 3.4.

However, I'd still restore the car to it's rightful powertrain.

A middle-aged secretary who works at the Student Service Center drives a MINT '00 GTP. This lady looks like she couldn't give a rat's ass if it was a Yugo. I wonder if people like that even notice they have a supercharger.

Nah, cuz their husbands pay the speeding tickets. And I've gone up against people like that out on the street... even though they were driving a GTP, they didn't have the balls necessary to slide between two cars... they might have known what they were driving... but they didn't know the FEEL of the car.

You can't drive a sports car well without having the feel of the car. When you have your hand/s on the wheel, you can feel the car from nose to tail and know exactly where you arein placement between cars. I can pull up behind someone (or back up to someone) and park with my bumper an inch off of theirs without touching... measure it... one inch. :)

and for the record... I hate bitches like that. There's a girl around here driving one of my dream cars... like a 76 firebird... and she has NO CLUE. It just kills me.

So, for all of you guys upset about the hot college chicks driving Special Edition GPs and not knowing...

Mine's not a special edition.. .and I'm not a hot college chick... But I am female, and I know EXACTLY what I"m driving. :)

Rare exception. Good to hear, though.

Coupe, but it's not the original engine. They had to replace the engine shortly before I got the car... how hard would it be to put in a 3.4 then instead of the 3.1? I've got a 3.1 and transmission to go with it just sitting, but automatic trannys tend to go bad after sitting for a while...

The tach on mine doesn't redline till umm.... SHIT... I have to go outside in 15* weather to check... brb... *shivering intensely* 5500 is orange hashmarks, redline (well..orangeline) at 6000.

Would that tell you anything? I knew there were lots of options with these cars... but mine didn't come with ANY markings on it... and the guy I bought it from was a bit shady, so for all I know ... I don't know anything.

Obscure fact... I don't remember if I read this in my manual or what...

The door speakers are wired into the dimmer switch... thats why you always see GPs running with their park lights on during the day. LOL.
