ismellrealbad
time to change the oil and tomorrow is going to be a nice warm 50* so i should pick my lazy ass up and do it. what filter do u guys recommend (if u are partial) and what specific parts store u pick it up from. i usually just get a carquest one from a local place. theres a strauss and a pepboys around here too but they r much farther. no auto zones. Also for people prone to dropping the plug in the drain pan like me i kinda though of a little idea. would putting some unsused screen over the drain pan be a good idea? i kinda like it

Hairdo12
AC Delco always, you're better off letting some dope from walmart change your oil if you use any thing other
Drache Rott
I use the purolator pure one filter when I can find them...they have an antidrain back valve that the ac dosn't have...and they were rated #1 by consumer reports for having a first pass efficenicy of 98% and a ultra small particle size of 8 microns ...yes I know I can't spell
PJB
Powerflo- theyre only $1.50, but thats at a shop discount and I think they only sell them to commercial customers. I get them thru my friends garage at Advance. To me all filters are the same. I use cheap oil too.

godofthunder
I use NAPA stuff....NAPA gold filter, and then their premium oil. This is mainly b/c my dad (whos my mechanic) and his wife (who works, and manages a NAPA) can get me really nice prices . I love their stuff though, never had a problem with service or parts. ismellrealbad
DAMNIT....i was looking at this auction just before i got the part #. This was a great deal that i missed http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2406109189&category=33661
Brian P
Ah crap, dont fret, cause that case with shipping comes out to $2.30 per filter, Ive seen them for $2.50 at pep boys. I use either that, or Purolator, STP is decent too. Avoid fran. PS- all filters have anti-drainback valves, otherwise we'd have no oil pressure for a few seconds every cold start. Fran's drainback valves are faulty and leak, you'll hear your valvetrain tick when cold while using a fran filter!
eclipse5302
AC Delco and Mobil 1 Synthetic

GnatGoSplat
I use Wal-mart SuperTech oil filters (made by Champ Labs) and SuperTech motor oil in my cars with NA engines, and Mobil 1 synthetic in the TGP.
ismellrealbad
mine was pf47 not 52...glad i didnt win that auction
Brian P
If you don't have any clearance issues (and you dont) the PF52 is just a longer version of the 47...my dad's '96 S10 w/2.2L 4 cyl claims PF47 but we use the 52 just for the fact of more filter. I think the 2.8 was originally coupled with the 47, then GM changed it.
ismellrealbad
ok thanks...yeah i definatley dont theres room for a frigin sword in front of there
Brian P
yeah there is room for the PF52. Used it on my mom's 95 with the 3100, not to mention that you have the same block, in the same location, in the same chassis as my car and I have enough room to install a PF99 if they made it! Drache Rott
I could be rude or I could be sweet... I'll settle for a simple bite me....not all filters have drain back valves...I have been working in automotive for 6 years now and have cut more then a few filters apart when I wanted to see either what was in them to get an idea of what was coming out of the motor or before hand when I was looking to decide what I wanted to run on my cuda....I have also been subjected to sitting thru more then a few friggin product courses for parts counter pro certifaction.... most frams dont have drain back valves... all the wix and purolators have them with the exception of cartridge types like on some of the mercedes...most of the delcos do...most of the motorcraft have them...I dont think the proflos come with them...the napa gold filters have them..but I dont think the napa silvers do... Thank you
Brian P
that's fine and dandy, I should clarify that we're talking about filters that we use on these cars, not cartridge type filters on Mercedes. You're welcome.
Drache Rott
ok ok ok...I have cut apart stp filter in the past for these cars it's like a sa3387 I believe...it did not have a antidriveback valve... and I dont think the fram does either...I have not cut the fram apart...just the stp...on my cuda I cut apart a bunch of filters..but I wasn't looking from the valves I was looking for the number of pleates
