Hi all i can't think for the life of me another forum that only talks about series 2/3 3.8s.

Well this isit my car but my grandmas, anyways she was driving up the hill doing about 60KPH and smashed her foot itto it and it gave of that nice rumble then kind of went whippy and coasted up the hill untill she got to a street.

she said that her steering was very hard to turn also.I asked her when the car came to a complete stop was it still running are did it shut off,she said it was still running.

my guess is when she put her foot into it one of the cables snap but im lost on the power steering :?: when i look at it tommrow im going to see if there is any fluid in that bottle.

If anyone has seen are heard about this prob on 3.8s please share, also would a computer have to do anything with this.

o BTW its the exact same car i own a 97 Buick Park avenue her KMS are whopping 230,000  i know thats still high in millage to.

any input would be great :D

the first thing I'd check would be the belt... they don't have an issue with chucking belts or anything, but it's always the first thing to check... can't miss it really...

Also, before it blew a head gasket, my friend's Grand National had 240,000 miles on it! That was the first major repair it had had!

I think that car would have the VET? (Variable speed power assists steering)....it is very hard to turn the wheel...or just harder then normal?

Was there a SES light??? (service engine soon)

It's possible the idler pulley snapped off. I've seen that happen on many a 3800...

But would'ed the engine just die out????

It's a good possibility it is the idler pulley. It left me and my buddy stranded once. It makes a little bit of noise before it snaps too. Pisspoor factory design.

Secondly, the variable-effort pumps go by the acronym EVO or Electronic Variable Oriface, not "VET". While it is computer controlled, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell the computer itself is the problem. The oriface itself does fail often, though. However, none of this explains the car running poorly.

Check the idler pulley.
