Smoke at 4K+

I noticed that when I get to or above 4000RPM, I can see smoke coming out of the tailpipe, looking back in my rearview mirror. Is this just because its running a little rich at that RPM because of the air/fuel mixture? Or is the engine just full of shit and its cleaning it out? What could that be from, or is it just normal for that to happen?

Probably running a little rich?? Any codes?

My friend's 2.4 in his Cavy runs rich as hell...when you rev the piss out of it it smokes quite a bit but has power still so he doesn't care lol.

Its not throwing any codes or anything. and it still has power. Before when I would get on it, it was almost like a blaskish looking smoke, but today when I got on it, I didnt see anything, except for the dust on the road flying off. It was like a dirty looking smoke. Sorry I cant tell you the exact color, but its kinda hard when your getting into it and you have to watch traffic because I live where the streets are always busy. So basically if I was behind a car at a stop light, I would drive off REALLY slow, and wait for the car to get ahead then I would get on it.

ive seen that smoke on different cas when they'd punch it...i'd mostly see it at the track

i just guessed it was just crap being burned off

original muscle cars smoke under WOT because their crappy ignition systems let the engine load up with carbon during light driving. going WOT blows some of this shit out. my pop's 302 '69 Mustang with smokes like hell under heavy throttle. my '87 Tbird smoked under hard throttle too.

i wouldn't think modern cars do this as much though.

do you have a cat on your exhaust?

A lesser known fact is that the cat actually burns up some of this smoke, unless it's real bad. I saw a 01 intrepid smoking horribly in 03! I know those 2.5 motors are infamous for having oil starvation lol POS.... Anyhow...A littlesmoke in the exhaust would otherwise be normal, if not for the cat, although not on the level of the carbed car such as the mustang mentioned.

With age the rings and valves would suffer trickle down but so little you wouldn't usually notice, but more so in a well worn engine.

how many miles does your car have?

no, if its getting lots of air but lack of fuel from dirty injectors or cloged fuel filter or failing fuel pump, then it would most defiantly run lean, it is getting cold, mabye its just normal white steam, put the brakes to the floor, and rev it to 4 grand and look, have some1 smell it
