slick Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Lower intake gasket I assume. First time doing it, you will probably spend a good day doing it (8-9 hours of work). As for write ups, lemme do a quick search. Quote

manitcor Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 id say $120 after all said and done maybe more Upper intake gaskets (reusable if your careful) $15 Lower intake 25-35 Lower intake bolts (required to go to the new desgin) $35 RTV $3 T-Stat w/ gasget $5 Coolant $10-$15 Enough oil for 2 oil changes Oil $12-$50 (depending on your brand and quailty of choice) EGR Gaskets $5 (might as well do them while your there) Injector O-Rings $5 (ditto, not neccassary though, im just kinda anal) Sea Foam or GM top Engine Cleaner $3 -5 Cardboard box $0 (youll see what its for when you get there) Drain all coolant from the car as possible (makes things less messy later) DISCONNECT THE BATTERY De-Pressurize the fuel system Disconnect front wires (you can leave the rears connected) Remove Coil packs and set aside Unbolt lower intake Unbolt Egr move egr out of the way pull off upper intake and set on drivers side strut brace upside down (or if you want dissconted the cables and take it all the way out of the car. CAREFULLY remove upper intake gaskets (inspect for cracks and leaks) Unbolt Fuel rail disconnect fuel injector harness remove fuel rail and set aside with fuel lines still connected (you can dissconect them if you want, not really neccassary, requires special fuel line tool) Disconnect upper rad hose Unbolt coolant neck remove t-stat unbolt lower intake Remove lower intake carefully (you may need to loosen or remove the PS pump to do this) Loosen rocker arms (DO NOT REMOVE THEM) Remove pushrods (this is what the box is for, the orientation and position of the pushrods must go back to where they were beofre. I normally write on the box Cyl 1, Cyl2 and then push them through the box with the correct end pointing down) remove old gasket carefully scrape up all the old rtv clean up any excess fluid clean all gasket surfaces and make sure they are smooth and clean install new gasket lay new rtv reinstall everything wiait 24 houts for the RTV to set change the oil put in fresh coolant run the car bleed the cooling system run a can of GM top engine clean or sea foam trough the engine have fun with the huge smoke cloud after all the smoke stops change the oil again ensure there are no leaks and everything is clean and working test drive Be paitent, take your time, do it right, read the directions carefully. GET A HAYENS BOOK IT WILL WALK YOU THROUGH THIS WITH MORE DETAIL THAN I JUS DID. Thats off the top of my head, i prob missed something but it gets you started Quote

sonyman87 Posted November 10, 2005 Author Report Posted November 10, 2005 OK cool i will give that to him.. i seen 60degreev6 writeup but thats why i asked for one. i seen the 3.1 writeup but i didnt know if that held true for 3x00 motors. you guys RoCK speedy respones 10 points to manicor and slick94prix Quote
slick Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Yeah, the 2.8/3.1 will mostly hold true to the 3100. There may be minor differences, but nothing crazy. As manticor said, pick up a Haynes manual, as you will need it to correctly torque everything down. Quote

As manticor said, pick up a Haynes manual, as you will need it to correctly torque everything down. ohh almost forgot, dont listen to the torque procdure or specs in the hayes manual there are revised specs from GM, you can have a dealer print out the TSB on the lower intake gasket for the genIII pushrods be sure to get the updated LIM gasket desgins and the updated bolts You can tell if you have the newer desgin if there are metal discs in the gasket. The new bolts have a powder type thread locker on the threads. Quote
