Pabz Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Well my trans stick was dry after changing the fluid and filling it, I added about 1 qt, waited a long time, still dry, added more, wait, still dry i added another huge bottle. Took it for a drive, drove well but idling in reverse i heard weird noises. I think the damn thing is over full and the filter has fallen off. Smelt burnt. Has this ever happened to anyone with there filter falling out after changing it???? I am leaving it parked, will check for leaks, and drain it and fix the filter this weekend. F-ing dry dip stick. Pabz Posted November 10, 2005 Author Report Posted November 10, 2005 What are your opinions on using lock tight on the tranny bolts. Whats a good brand? Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 You shouldn't need to use lock tite on tranny bolts. Just make sure they're clean and use a rubber-type gasket (not cork) and it shouldn't leak. You can put some blue RTV on also if you want... Quote
Pabz Posted November 10, 2005 Author Report Posted November 10, 2005 Well took pan off and filter is in place, looks like dip stick houseing is attached fine, other wise i would have gotten a huge puddle. Am i losing fluid while driving???? Quote
1990lumina Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Check your regular anti freeze in the rad....I think stock, there is a small cooler built into the rad...it could have failed, however if it did fail, I'll suspect anti freeze could have got into the tranny fluid??? That is really wierd though... Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 I duno thats weird. I can tell you that once I was loosing tranny fluid at the lines at the bottom of the radiatior. Just have to replace the clamp and that fixed it. But you might be loosing fluid from there, although I cant see loosing that much. Quote
Pabz Posted November 11, 2005 Author Report Posted November 11, 2005 Well i drained it, filled it up again, while idleing it was fine. took it for a drive and checked it again, ITS GONE  tiny bit on the tip. It may be leaking from the side panel, i checked those cooler lines too. I wiped everything clean around the pan, so if there is a leak, its probably shooting out, but there is no damn dripping anywhere. could it get into the coolant? First the motor then the trans, I"M DOOMED Wait till you see my other post about the buick. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 How much fluid are you putting into the tranny?? I worked at a tranny shop this past summer, and on a 4T60, i would always have to add about to a gallon of fluid after dropping the pan. Than start the car up, shift it between drive and reverse a couple times, than, while idleing in park, check and top up the fluid as necessary. When it looks like it is full, shift between Reverse and Drive several times, than check it again. You may need to add a bit more. This method has never failed me once. IIRC, these cars take about 1.5 gallons to fill after dropping the pan, but im not 100% sure. Quote
maybe2fast Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 yeah a pan drop looses like 6+ quarts also are you checking the fluid level with the car running warm in park? Level surface? Quote
Pabz Posted November 11, 2005 Author Report Posted November 11, 2005 I'll try adding more fluid, i put in a 4L bottle which is just under 4 qts, I dont want to over fill it again. Ya doods ive done this many times, damn cork gaskets, this time i went with rubber, they gave me the T440 kit (equiv to 40T60) since mines an 89. Quote
