bve32k
If I have a shop rebuild the 4T60-E trans and put it in. How long will you say it will last me down the road with the proper maintenance of fluid change and filter change?
PeNZ
With proper maint. and nice driving, well over 100,000.
gp90se
Honestly, I would change the filter and clean the magnet after 10k miles and make sure everything is as it should be (magnet isnt loaded with shavings) and then every 30k miles. I would also throw a tranny cooler on, $50 for additional cooling and upto 3x longer life.
fastbird232
Any suggestions on a tranny cooler?

bve32k
I have a tranny cooler. I don't know if I am going to put it on or not. When I bought the car it came with the car. Don't know how it was hooked up or anything though. Does the seperate tranny cooler keep the trans cooler than going through the radiator? I am going to be having a shop put the tranny in and rebuild it so I wonder how much extra they would charge me to put that one I have in. gp90se
we had an argument on which was better, putting it before or after the stock tranny cooler in the radiator. depending on what ya looking for, prolly better off putting it before the cooler,
bve32k
My guess would be that I would want to put the trans cooler after the radiator because once the trans fluid goes threw the radiator it is still warmed up a little from also cooling the coolant down. Then once the trans fluid leaves it would go threw the trans cooler to make more cooler. Am I wrong or can someone explain?
gp90se
if you do a search, you will find the debate about 6 of us had, it really depends the climate you live in and how cool you want the fluid to be from startup to highway driving. THe_DeTAiL3R
Put one before AND after I've got one after the radiator cause I want my fluid to be as cool as possible. My trans has issues though.... but it's still alive!
bve32k
I asked the same question on 60DegreeV6 and one guy told me to not even add one on there would be my best way to go.. Just a little FYI on the tranny coolers, most 4t60e's have thermal controls in them so if you put the trans cooler after the radiator you will mess up these controls and the tranny will never reach "operating temp" if your worried about the radiator being gummed up with crap get it flushed, thats an easy job to do. Mine is inline too but pre radiator, the fluid passes throught the radiator last to get it up to temp and keep it there, but the cooler provides the cooling it wont get from the radiator." Maybe I should look more into it and find out more information before I do this?

It helps cool it, and the radiator modulates the temperature keeping it from becoming too cool. I've also been running with cardboard blocking the entire right half of the radiator as well, (I think it's actually giving me better performance! but I also have a good thermo, btw) and the trans cooler I used is an OEM one from a 1992 z-34. Direct bolt in, simple as pie. I should note that the cooler on both vehicles I snatched these off of where routed after the trans cooler. but I'm not drag racing. so... GP1138
4T60e's are generally well-behaved. You should get 100k out of it if you drive right.
