TCC Solenoid ?

My wife was driving the Z today and called to let me know it's stalling on her. After a fresh fuel system cleaning, new fuel filter, MAP sensor, and throwing no codes, I've read most of the topics here on stalling, and with her descriptions, I'm led to believe it's the TCC Solenoid.

Symptoms:

- No SES Light

- Slight shudder before stall

- Slight RPM bounce before stall

- Won't restart in Neutral.

- Will restart in Park

I don't have the time or knowledge to fix it myself. I can do most DIY stuff, but I prefer to stay away from transmissions. What am I looking at to have it replaced by a mechanic? And I'm pretty serious this time, anyone interested in a clean, high mileage Z34 (170,000)?

*update while posting* trouble restarting and smoking.....

was this after cruising speed like on a highway?

Nope, normal driving in town. I made it to the Mechanic's shop, but it died on me once. Cruising up to a stoplight, you let your foot off the gas, rpms about 2,000, the tach dives to 500 rpm, tach bounces back up to 2,000 and the car dies at the light.

We'll know tomorrow what's going on. Made me feel good when the guy at the mechanic's shop couldn't get the car to start right away either.

This all sounds almost exactly like the problems my Lumina was having. The problem was traced to the TCC solenoid, which I had replaced at a GM dealer for under $100. If it is throwing no codes, and the engine is as clean as you state, I'd definitely start with the TCC.

Not too bad for 170,000 eh?

The mechanic's shop should call tomorrow morning to let me know what's going on, as they are looking at it first thing in the morning. Under $100 sounds good to me!

No secret. Only had the car for about 10,000 miles. It was a two owner car, old Farmer's wife was the first owner. It was her "go to town car." and the second owner only had it for 5 months. Now, if it will just stay running, things would be great.

Update if anyone cares. Apparently, the EGR, which was supposed to be brand new when I bought the car, was filled with so much carbon, it was stuck open, allowing the exhaust back in, choking the motor and stalling the car. $140 later, I have an R&R'd EGR and a new EGR Gasket and an SES light that is still on. I could have bought a new EGR from Checker and replaced it myself for not much more than $140. Sometime's I hate being too busy to work on my own cars. I'll be checking code's tonight. Hopefully, they just didn't reset the ECM.

I'm guessing my troubles aren't over.
