ShockTherapy Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 it looked kinda hairy, but not REALLY hairy, but the little thingys shaped like cam gears hanging off of the side of th belt kinda freaked me out... should i beg my grandma to have this replaced tomorrow along with plugs and wires? z34_nut Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 if you bring it to some-one expect $800 minimum. Quote
ShockTherapy Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 what i'm asking is: does it need to be replaced? Quote
jdcutty Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 DDDDOOOOOOO-IIIIITTTTTTTTT. As long as she is payin. Quote
ShockTherapy Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 well if shes paying hell ya DDDDOOOOOOO-IIIIITTTTTTTTT. As long as she is payin. i don't want to be mooching off of her, and honestly, i'll end up paying her back pretend this is my moneys we're talking about. and i'm fucking broke. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Yeah, i'd get that replaced, especially if its original. Do the idler and tensioner pulleys as well. they last only as long as the belts themselves, and if they go, you're up the creek. I wouldnt reallly drive around with it like that! Quote
z34_nut Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I would never drive it like that. That could snap at any given moment, and definatly replace the idler pullies, and the tensioner. Also it could come further off the cogs, and ruin your plastic covers, I've had both happen. Quote
chadz34 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I don't see anything wrong with it. Is there something I'm missing? Quote
z34_nut Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I don't see anything wrong with it. Is there something I'm missing? um...yeah, the fact that the timing belt if hanging 1/8 inch off the cogs is all. Quote
J Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 we had it done on Jessicas car for $600 and that was a complete job, with the idler and tensioner Quote
Psych0matt Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 DIY, about $150-200 in parts (have a free weekend thoug ) Quote
LumiDriver Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Yah, definately get it done. The belt looks nasty..also..if you DIY...as psyc0matt said..have a FULL weekend free.. XD Quote
5speedz34 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Honestly, I would do it. I mean you just bought the car, and you don't want to be stranded right after you bought it right? Preventative maintenance is key. Quote
LumiDriver Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Timmy would prolly not get stranded..he'd end up calling me to get my lazy ass out to pick him up Quote
ShockTherapy Posted November 8, 2005 Author Report Posted November 8, 2005 Timmy would prolly not get stranded..he'd end up calling me to get my lazy ass out to pick him up what ray said... anyways, the timing belt will start tomorrow. and while i'm in there, it's getting some Borg/Warner Sure-Sparks, and some 1995 Vintage NOS AC Delco Performance #8's. Quote
runt Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Huh...I wasn't aware that Borg/Warner Actually put their name on stuff. Neat. (We do a lot of tooling work for them here...and I haven't figured out what kinda stuff yet...mostly because I'm a computer guy, not a tool/die maker.) Quote
