twalt13 Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 Has anybody used them? I have been told (dont believe it) that the GEN III starters are smaller than GEN II, and that they bolt right up? Input please. Thanks. Quote
slick Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 Yep, they bolt right up, and are smaller. Also, I believe they are gear reduction as well Quote
Manny Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 They are smaller, definitely lighter, and are gear reduction. I was lucky enough to find one in the j/y a few weeks ago. Someone had unbolted it already and just left it laying there, and they are hard to come by around here. Works flawlessly compared to the old heavy "clicker". Someone must not have known what they had. Quote
Prospeeder Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 so starters from a 3.8 Series 3 will bolt right up? whats the benifit from this? Just easier to start and uses less power? Quote
Manny Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 Easier starts, uses less power, I was told they generate less internal heat due to gear reduction, thus less prone to heat failure (don't know about that one), and from personal experience: no arm fatigue from holding up that old heavy f#@ker, while starting the first bolt! oh yeah, no crushed fingers either, from removing the big one and it falls and pinches your hand between itself and the cradle. supreme_style21 Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 So if I want a starter for my 95 3100, I can go into the store and get one for an 04 GP? Neat. Quote
Brian P Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 I've got one for my 3400. Same as what's in the '02 GP Quote
