I am so incredibly pissed part 2

last night the TSTE randomly started making a knocking noise. i didn't push it but it seemed like it lost some power. I can only pray that it's not too serious and that i'm not going to loose another fucking motor.

please don't kill my bandwidth.

what the fuck is that fucking noise?

I also ripped the EGR tube wide-the-fuck open when removing the plenum.. soo yea. need to fucking find a new one of those now.

edit: video down, pics up

Sounds to me kinda like an exhaust leak. did this start after or before you broke the EGR tube?

BTW rod knock sounds like this.

http://www.friedpoodle.com/bonnemeet2005/Movie.wmv

That was the second thing that popped into my head, but it just sounded like it had a more mechanical "thumpthumpthumpthumpthumpthump" to it. know what I mean? I honestly don't know if I broke the EGR tube or not. It could've been broken to start with but I didn't notice it. Anyone know if a leak in the OEM crossover would make a sound like that either? if it's just an exhaust leak I'll be real happy. if not... then fuck.

When mine started knocking and losing power, it started smoking not to long after. Further review showed 4 out of 6 bearings spun and some rod damage. But that was just me.

did your "knock" sound anything like my video? or was it much

more prominent like that 3800's?

If this sounds like something fixable I REALLY need to do it today, so any help at all is appreciated..

thanks guys.

Tony, that doesn't sound like rod knock in the video. Knock is much deeper. If you want help today, let me know here or give me a call.

dude if you want to swing by honestly by all means feel free. I really fucking stressed right now from a few things and really didn't need this bullshit today. I can use all the help I can get.

in any case I need to look into where to find a replacement EGR tube, cause I broke the one on the TGP too.

after this is fucking fixed I think I'm going to shoot up to Beavertail and just scream fuck a few times at the top of my lungs into the ocean.

i guess i'm gonna go back outside now so call my cell if you want. i can't stay in my room, i'm breaking too many things.

Alright. pics.

opening the hood:

an apparent problem, but still don't know if it was caused after or before I took it all apart.

after some time at autozone and home depot with Greg and John (thanks again guys for coming down to help - I really appriciate it) we found what we thought could be a pretty damn decent-ghetto-temp fix.

that is a home natural gas line tube that I think would go on a dryer or range, etc. caught Greg's eye and we tried it out.. the treads fit the crossover pipe perfectly! so we tried to keep one side intact. merging the EGR flange and good pipe was a nightmare and untimately unsuccessful. I cut down the pipe on the flange pretty far and tried using a staright section of the broken tube (near it's downpipe connection flare) and shoved it between the EGR flange and gas pipe. This all seemed to be going well, after me and Greg fought with it for a few hours trying to get it to fit.

I lay down a few layers of JB weld (24 hour dry JBW is only rated good up to 600 degrees. even if this fit it wouldn't have lasted long at all). So anyway, started laying down the first few layers of JB Weld.. tried test fit on the EGR valve for some reason and low and behold, there's no way in hell the new pipe/flange fits. the straight section I used earlier to help hold the halves together is getting in the way on the inside of the pipe of a portion of the valve that extends into the pipe. I bolted the flange onto the valve anyway and hoped for the best. the undried JBW was cracked and ripped apart as I had to spread the two pieces apart a bit so i put down a few new layers.

long(er) story short, I get out there this morning, pipe doesn't fit worth a damn, it doesn't come close to clearing the LIM on the bend. just trying to get it on I completely broke the whole setup because the JBW wasn't set yet anyway.

alright, so haxor mod doesn't fit, even though it's a great idea. next up? block it the fuck off. shoved three dimes into the fitting from the pipe to the crossover. looks like it's holding great. cut a piece of sheet metal to block off the upper plenum. looks pretty good, no codes or anything, but still need emissions testing, so I need to find the proper tube soon. it's holding good though. When I first got the car back together it was making the same noises it was before - identical. all of a sudden it stops making the noise and suddenly seems normal again. can't tell if we did anything but this is holding up pretty good.

awww, you didnt put the blue pipe back on

:leaving: *shhh* don't tell Greg :willynilly:

I finally drove it long enough to throw a code today, started running like shit after that. seems to be holding though - gotta try to get that pipe today.

if I can't find good at a j/y, does anyone have the dealer part # & price?

IIRC, a 5 speed EGR tube fits a tgp motor without any problems and dealers have them in stock usually.

On my buick (vaccum egr as well) I have the vaccum hose blocked off keeping it from opening, and it runs o so much smoother without an SES code going off.

When I get home fron NJ, I'll PM ya about the hood, the GP ran into some issues and is now sittin in the driveway covered up again :(

yea, they were off the TGP. just don't let the STE know that, it'll jinx it.

I should be able to pull one off a 2.8 LE tomorrow, but that's good to know. not much of a chance of finding a 5 speed around here though.

You just plugged the vacuum and it runs the same? how does that work? maybe I can do that and it'll run better for now too..

and WTF happened to the GP? come on man, don't pull a me.. blowin up a red GP coupe a few weeks after it left the driveway in forever.

Had a vacuum leak goin. foremost line on top of the TB came out... fixed it for now. That was definetly the cause of shitty idle/poor power, so now driveability wise it's back to normal. I only drove it up the street so I don't know if the car's done bitching at me yet. I went to the j/y too.. broke the fuckin EGR pipe on that LE I was going to take  as I was turning it off the rear manifold the whole pipe started twisting with the screw-on end.. wouldn't break loose and turn seperately :bash:

And sorry Greg  I know how much all that dirt meant to ya :P
