Question about vaccum lines

The line that comes from the top of the intake (right before the TB) that has one part go around to the back of the engine, and another that goes under the plastic engine cover and hooks up to the top left of the engine... how important is this line? I have seen people disconnect them and use a small air filter on where they used to be... bad idea/ good idea? I would be building an intake that starts right after before the lines hook into, and was wondering if this was a good way to bypass them?

Let me know if I was unclear/ you dont understand what I mean.

That's not a vacuum line, it's the PCV pipe. Generally it isn't a good idea because you're always supposed to have a small vaccum on your crankcase at all times. My car has just a little breather filter on because Sean did the 96+ intake swap and didn't put the stuff from the new engine on it. I can't say it's really hurting anything because so many people do it, but it does keep gunk out of your intakes and should keep them a little cleaner.

If it's right before the TB then that could be important vacuum for the car to idle properly. Mine is leaking in that area (I plugged it up seems to be better now) so better keep that in mind. I'm not 100% sure cause it's a different engine (but it's similar year to my car). You might just need to plug it to keep it idling properly if you decide to remove it.
