Black5spdZ Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 I have a 92 z34 with a 5spd, the motor has been rebuilt once but has a tick at 3k with low load situaions in 1st and 2ndgear. I have another motor from a 92 auto, i am going to rebuild that motor to put in, where do the manuals get their extra 10hp or whatever they have. I am going to build it up a little, i want to try to make at least 230whp. Are there any parts i should swap? Thanks Scott Quote
z34_nut Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 it doesn't take a little to make 230whp. Its takes a good deal to make that much, and some deep pockets edspecially with these engines. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 the manual transmission gains that HP through less drivetrain loss. like Kyle said...you will need to do a few things to reach 230whp. it's not exactly easy without shoving boost into into it, although i'm sure it can be done. birdman Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 i almost positive the extra hp came from the slightly higher compression 9.5:1 vs 9.25:1, i belive they made the valve relifs in the pistons smaller to get that. Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 I concur that manual 3.4's had a 1/4 point more compression than the autos. Quote

Yeah, if you compare auto pistons to manual pistons the reliefs are different. There is info over at 60 about that. FWIW: Manual pistons aren't available anymore through GM. Quote
